Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop!

Good morning! Happy Friday! Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop hosted by me Michael Mandrake.

We have a nice little group of top authors telling you about books on their backlist. I'll start us off by telling you about my book Vertigo from Sizzler Editions.

What's it about? Is a vamp story? Angel, Demon, shifter? I didn't really know until it was done and even then I was confused until book two was written which will be released sometime next year.

Is it based on old folklore? Mythology? Nope all drummed up in the head of Sharita Lira, the head herself. A story about a lonely doctor who longs for something out the ordinary. He's touched obviously, yearning for something that might not even exists but instead of him going to find it, it finds him.

Enjoy a blurb and excerpt. Leave a comment and have a chance to win Vertigo and another book from the Triad backlist. We're giving away 6 books this weekend and you have until the 15th to win so, get out there and tell people!

Here is the blurb and excerpt!

After losing his lover to mental disorder, Dr. Hayden Curry throws himself into work, silently wishing he could experience something extraordinary in love. He finds his match in David, a creature Hayden revives after discovering him and hauling him back to his lab. Upon awakening, David asks Dr. Hayden’s help in discovering more about himself. Hayden agrees but senses secrets in David. Will he get to the bottom of things and be able to continue the special relationship he and David have, or will the secrets that come forward tear them apart?

Before I went to my haven, I glanced outside my window. Outside, the rainfall reduced to a drizzle, coupled by slow moving clouds over the moonlight. The trees blew after only a few gusts of winds, ripped the leaves off and made quite a mess on the grass underneath.
These would be the nights I would cherish with him most. After relishing in the afterglows of new inventions and glasses of wine, there were mind blowing affections to follow.
Such a good lover…
Once I got to my place of work, I immediately began searching for the vials I had for the latest concoction. When I did not see them, I lost my head rather quickly.
“Where on God’s green earth,” I screamed and walked from one end of my laboratory to the other. "Where are those samples I just had? Libertina!"
Immediately, the pale and slim maiden with dark hair ran to my aid.
"Yes sir, have you lost something again, sir?"
"I have Libertina. The tubes I examined the night before. They seemed to…oh."
Within moments, my dearest uncovered the missing necessities I searched for, right underneath my novel, The Bounded Scientist.
I shrunk back and smiled wryly. "Thank you Libertina, ahem, that will be all my sweet."
"Yes sir, if there is anything you need, I'll be tending to your clothes, sir." Quickly, she curtsied and scurried off, closing the door behind her.
Ah, what a fine young maiden I have. If I were more attracted to the ladies, then I might give her go, but only gentlemen tickled my fancy these days.
I could not be that upset even in this pitiful state. Not that many people understood me when they came to know me. Throughout the years, many thought they should have thrown me in the local mental ward because of the ideas I'd had.
Nevertheless, my determination and visions had made me one of the most recognizable names in London, apart from the fact I inherited my father's large fortune.
Still, even with all the money and notoriety, I had always felt something was missing from my life. I longed for something new to happen. Whether it was a new discovery or invention it had to be different from what I had already seen.
I looked at the experiment I had been working on for seemingly weeks in disgust. Things hadn’t been the same anyway since Lawrence departed but I was determined to move on with my life’s work despite what happened to him. I had to hold on to the hope he would return.
After around the fifteenth trial of not receiving my desired result, I retreated to my bedroom to sleep. Unlike times before, I decided not to read before bed but instead lay there until my eyes got too heavy.
I hoped the nightmares would not start again since after they occurred I stayed awake staring at the ceilings of my room, often needing a drink of the alcoholic variety to put me to rest. I felt myself becoming rather dependent on the beverages. Certainly, doing this sort of thing would cloud my senses and not allow me to function properly. Many men of science I knew had become like this and I refused to become one of them.
I’ll never.
I always reassured myself that I wouldn’t continue to down this dangerous path, however, everyday, being alone with only yourself to talk with could be a detriment to one’s mental state.
Although fully capable of doing everyday things, I’d come to accept that I was different. After all, for one, I wasn’t attracted to women. Two, I enjoyed reading more than being outside playing in games.
In fact my mom would frequently say that she wished I’d be like “normal” boys and go play ball instead of reading. This from the same woman who didn’t know how to read until after she birthed me. With the help of my caregiver, I taught myself how to read the written word thus showed my mum in the process. Still, even afterwards, she didn’t consider it as an important skill. “I’ve always had people to do things like read for me,” she said, giving illiteracy credence. Totally absurd but true.
If I wasn’t able to read and learn I might die.
Such is true of me, Doctor Hayden Curry. I preferred to have my mind stimulated before anything else. This isn’t saying that I didn’t enjoy the sins of the flesh because I did, but, books were like gold to me, more important than any penny I owned. I’d inherited most of it which allowed me to live the lavish lifestyle and work on experiments instead of seeing patients to cure their ailments. I wasn’t interested in short term solutions anyway. I wanted results that could change the world and mankind forever.

Wednesday Briefs # 4

Greetings!

I'm back on board with the Wednesday Briefs.

Here is are the prompts:

"Love means never having to...." or the alternate prompts of:

use: peanuts, consideration, candelabra or

"I would have gone to .... except that I...." or

"Penny for your thoughts" or

"Frankly, my dear, I don't...."

Now here is my small story an alternative scene from the story I'm editing, Vertigo 2 Devotion.

David stared at his longtime partner like a man possessed. He couldn't help the jealousy boiling inside of him, tearing him up inside, making the demon he was come out every moment he watched Hayden with his good friend, Berrows.

"This sickens me," he groaned and rolled his eyes, attempting to lose the anger in a hurry. He'd promised Luc, Jessie, Berrows, and Libertina he wouldn't allow the green monster to appear now that they'd made the arrangement complete. However, it was just too hard to do that. Knowing the person you loved, the man you'd spent most of your immortal existence waiting on, molding into the walker the dark lord desired, was enamored with your best friend. "Pfft!" Some friend. "He should be more respectful of my feelings!" That didn't make sense. Since when should a demon care about feelings and as Luc said, they can't love anyone.

"Then why does it hurt so much to see this...why..." David balled his hand into a fist and tore his eyes away from the scene. While still brooding he heard footsteps come closer and then a soft hand on his back.

"A penny for your thoughts, lover?" That calm voice soothed him but did nothing to dispel the anger in his cold heart.

"Read them," he snapped. "You're good at the mind reading aspect now, remember?"

Saturday Sips - Vertigo 2 Devotion

Greetings. Happy late Saturday! How about  a sip for this evening?

Here is some more from my sequel to Vertigo, Devotion.

Being a demon is so much sexier!

Jessie Jinx desires something new and different in his life. He’s obsessed with demonology, Satanism, as well as the teachings of LaVey and Crowley. Through his art, his music and his choice if reading material, he’s channeling a demon and isn’t even aware of it.

Enter in David, Hayden Curry’s lover who convinced him to give up his life to walk eternally until their destruction. Lucifer has a job for him, to bring in a new follower into the mix because he is pleased with his work. The devil doesn’t verbalize this to David and instead, causes him to have these intense sexual experiences with someone other than Hayden. Finally, the evil lord makes him go to New Orleans, Louisiana, the place where many magics and evils of hoodoo voodoo dwell in search of the devil’s new protégé. Upon meeting him, Jessie becomes fascinated with David and Hayden, thus making Dr. Curry very jealous.

Jessie wants to be with them completely, despite the fact it means his mortal life but he has a connection to David and Hayden’s pasts that might keep them apart. What will the three do to solve it?

In this scene, David and Hayden have a heart to heart about their relationship

The sun shone through the windows, causing David to wince and rub his eyes. “Ughh…moving day I suppose.” Although it always excited him to begin a new mission, this one didn’t exactly make him jump for joy. He knew it necessary to prove his loyalty to Luc so he’d go through it regardless. Still, being around the singer, Jessie Jinx left him unsettled and worried.
Not wanting to get up, he turned around slowly to look at his partner sleeping next to him. His eyes roamed the pale, slender body, so lean and beautiful in all the right places. A hint of moisture glistened on his back, down to the crack of his buttocks and David crouched over to trace that line of wetness with his mouth. “Salty and sweet,” he whispered and made a small trail of kisses around Harden’s tribal ink on his lower back. Once David moved the bed covering, he continued to go lower on his body with nips and pecs. With each spot his tasted, his morning wood got more uncomfortable to bear. “I love you, Hayden. Never will I desire another the way I do you.”
“Mhmmm…” Only slightly, he moved under David’s touches until he shifted around fully to face him.
Again, David took in the essence that was Doctor Hayden Curry; the front of his body just as delicious as the backside. Taut muscles in his arms and abs, with a light smattering of hair that started between his pecs and led down to his crotch. On his shoulders, colorful artwork of a ferocious tiger on his left, while on the right a hooded figure with Latin writing underneath. Despite his proper English, Hayden had become very worldly just as David had, changing with the times as they should’ve. Often, he worried that the old coroner wouldn’t adapt to living in times nothing like his own but thankfully he was presently surprised. “Good morning, Hayden.”
His lover sat up on his elbows and lifted one legs up, causing the sheet to fall away from his body. “Mornin’ lover. How did ya’ sleep?”
David grinned, admiring his lover’s accent which seemed to improve overnight. He took Hayden’s hand inside his own and lifted it to his lips. “Very well, baby. Betta than I have in weeks.”
“Really? Why is that, David? What’s been causin’ my man to stay up late at night?” The Doctor returned the smile and his hazel eyes already turned from their light green hue to a shade matching his own.
“I’m…um…” This sudden move made him lose focus. With each passing day, David could tell how good Hayden was becoming at reading his mind. “Alright, fine!” Knowing he couldn’t keep the truth from his man any longer, he kissed the back of his palm and breathed in the musky scent of his flesh. Ashamed about his dreams, he looked away from him. Tears began to run down his cheeks. “Forgive me, lover. My mind hasn’t been right for so many days. I’ve…” The guilt rose inside of him, acting as a noose around his neck. He struggled to find the words. “I’ve been thinking of the human, a lot. The visions of him having sex and performing have caused me great distress. Please, please forgive me Hayden. I don’t love him and never will. It was only my heart and cock betraying me.”
Hayden nodded, kept the grin, and traced the moisture running from his lids. “I know, mon chere. I’ll neva question yo affection fo me.”
In disbelief, David shook his head. “But I promised not to keep secrets or lie to you again when we made our commitment after your burial. Remember? And please, you can talk to me in our speech now. The act is only necessary when we’re around Jessie.”
The Doctor tilted his head to the right. “Nah, can’t do that if I wanna get used to the role I’m playin’, babe. Look ‘ere, I’m sho it’s a reason fo what you dreamt ‘bout, right? Ya’ wasn’t doin’ this on ya’ own accord. No reason to get upset, David. We’ll always be together David. Foeva.”
Quickly he nodded in agreement, enjoying the feeling of Hayden’s hand on his face. Still, his nonchalant attitude about David’s mind adultery bothered him. “I…Hayden…”
“Shhh…” He got up and covered his lips with his own. “There there, mah David, my precious love.” Hayden pulled him in and stroked the back of his head, fondling his curls. “I’ll neva have the same feelings for anyone but you and I know you feel the same, sugah but I also know we’ll always be lookin’ at otha’ good lookin’ men too.”
David gripped onto Hayden tightly, still upset over their conversation. He never wanted to love anyone but Hayden and he’d continue to feel that way despite what Luc had in store. “What if he requires us to do something else?”
“Then we do it but the feelin’s won’t be there, will they? None of that’ll change, right chere? All that mattas is the emotions you got fo me, love.”
True. “Yes, I’ll never have that for anyone else. I only love you Hayden and won’t do anything to anyone unless it’s required.”
“Mah man, I believe ya. No worries there, alright?” Hayden pulled away and gazed into David’s eyes. He took his face into his soft hands and softly kissed his lips. “I love ya’ David. Neva will that change. Eva.”

Saturday Sip - Vertigo 2 Devotion

Morning, and happy Saturday. Here is a little from Vertigo 2 Devotion where hot Jason Momoa is my muse!

“Hey, listen, it’s my art okay? I understand I might’ve gotten a little carried away!” Jessie tried his best to explain it to the arresting officer who sat behind a desk at the New Orleans police station, precinct nineteen. Damnit he knew he should’ve kept his dick to himself. That girl! Fuckin’ women will get you in trouble each and every time.
The officer gave him a pitiful glare and straightened the papers on his desk. “Jessie, we’ve told you, time and time again to keep yourself clothed. You can’t go around whippin’ your junk out in front of audiences no matter how artistic you may think it is. Now, I’m sorry, as much as I like ya’ as a person, I gotta book ya’ for indecent exposure and because this is a repeat offense…”
“Officer, wait a moment. That won’t be necessary.” A voice from out of nowhere came and the cop named Brimley as well as Jessie turned to look to their right.
In came the beautiful woman from the show, holding her purse tightly in her leather gloved hands. Everyone in that office went silent, looking at the beautiful lady with paled skin and ebony tresses strolling towards Brimley’s desk.
Both Brimley and Jessie got up from their seats. “Um, ma’am I…” The policeman looked as if were entranced.
Jessie’s eyes bulged. She was even more gorgeous and sexy in regular light. A long black dress that flowed to her ankles, all lacey with low cut at the bosom to display that work of art on her chest. Her ebony dark hair pinned in a bun with tight curls that hung from the edges. A red heart dipped into her cleavage. Jessie suddenly felt the urge to taste her right then and there.
“No need. I have his bail money right here.” She pulled out a wad of cash that looked to be hundreds. This should cover it all right?” Slowly she licked her ruby red lips and flashed a wicked grin. The singer wondered had she enjoyed his offering from earlier? Due to the cops grabbing him offstage, he couldn’t stick around to find out.
“Um, I…yeah,” Brimley nervously chuckled and pulled out his keys to release the cuffs.
Jessie couldn’t believe what was happening. A tantalizing and delicious creature he didn’t even know, getting him out on bail? Who was this woman? Better yet, what did she do for a living so he could change girlfriends? Most of what Jessie owned was either given to or bought for him. His art and music he did for almost pennies earned him just enough pennies to buy more supplies, beer, and drugs or his other love, reading about the occult. He used his good looks and sexual wiles with women and men to get the necessities. Jessie Jinx didn’t directly work for anyone and wouldn’t no matter what.
“Thank you very much,” she purred and bowed her head slightly forward. “Come Jessie, we have things to do.”
We do? The artist rubbed his sore wrists before picking up his top hat from the desk. “Um, yeah, uh, thanks darlin’ and um, officers, have a good one,” he drawled and tipped his cap.  He followed her out the office, feeling the eyes from every direction drawn on the lovely lady that released him. Seemingly she didn’t really walk out, more like glided out the place onto the steps. When they got outside, she turned to him and kissed his mouth long and hard making his cock instantly take notice. “Mhmm…baby, thank you.”
Again, she covered his lips with hers and pulled onto his jacket to keep him still. “Just stay out of trouble and know that I’m watching your every move,” she snarled and quickly skipped down the stairs, away from Jessie despite his cries.
“Wait! I wanna know more, damnit!” In desperation, he held out one of his hands while the other held onto his hat. Wanting to inquire about the girl, he tried running after her but in the blink of an eye she was gone. “Who are you, beautiful?”

Saturday Sips Vertigo 2 - Devotion

Good morning! Welcome to Michael's.

How about a new sip from Vertigo 2, Devotion? I'm loving this story about David, Hayden's demon and his new mission he's been given by Lu to test his loyalty. Contrary to what the meter says, I'm 19k plus into the tale and am looking to finish first draft by end of this week.

Here is a brief synopsis

Now, an unedited excerpt. In this scene, David is waking from a dream that leaves him in a cold sweat. Dr. Curry has just the right medicine. ;)

London, England Curry Manor 2011

“Ugh!” David jolted and his eyes immediately flung open. Clinging to the sheets with his long fingers, his nails dug into the mattress, poking holes there as the adrenaline pumped through him like a bad drug. He tried his best to regulate his breathing which quickly turned to pants while his cock hardened in his pants. “What the hell is happening to me, Lu? What are you doing?” He’d been having these sexy dreams for days now that didn’t include his beloved Hayden. His ruler, the devil Lu, didn’t have the answers for him. In answer to his inquiries, he said, “Figure it out for yourself!”
“But I can’t…you’re all knowing my dark lord.” To him he was. Lu had been more than just a ruler and father unlike that other deity he used to serve. Rather, the dark one always had his best interest at heart and for that David was forever grateful. Not in the many years he’d roamed the earth did he feel remorse for denouncing the so called almighty. David had found his true calling now as a full evil immortal, working with Lu and his army of demons. In truth, Hayden and David weren’t part of the havoc wreakers, instead, the walkers that searched the world for followers and or new disciples to join in the fight that would be waged at the end of time.
However, right now, his “savior” was playing with his mind. Not telling him why he’d been thinking of some human dressed in funny garb and wearing corpse paint in the states. After these visions ended, he’d be so aroused, he ended up ravaging Hayden, at times clawing his body so badly, he’d have scratches on him after they finished that needed healing.
This hunger would definitely need Hayden to satisfy it and David didn’t dare tell his lover of his visions. Why, the last time he even mentioned looking in the direction of another man Hayden became enraged and didn’t speak or touch him for a full forty-eight earthly hours.
“Jeez, what the hell!” David wiped his brow of the huge amounts of sweat and tugged at his crotch. “I need my baby! Where is he?” His eyes darted around the bedroom he and Hayden shared. The same one he used to sleep in a little over a hundred years ago until the good doctor “fell” to his death. Their immortal existence hadn’t been the same since but David wouldn’t change a thing and he thought neither would his lovely companion.
“Lover, you summoned?” As if he were part of a dream, Doctor Curry glided through the walls, dressed in the same suit he wore at his burial. An all black outfit, cufflinks on his wrists and the tie dipping low on his chest. Fitted slacks that hugged his small behind and boots with small heels, studded around the ankles adorned his feet. Dark luminous curls of crimson and brown cascaded down his back and shoulders, his hazel eyes gleamed in the sunlight, quickly changing to bright red flames. “You want me in bed again, don’t you!” He cocked an eyebrow.
“Aye, my love. It’s the dreams of…my obsession with you. They’re coming to me like a thief in the night. The visions of you…above me, pummeling me into the mattress wreak havoc on my brain and my body cries out for you to fulfill my desires.”
Hayden clicked his heels and grinned evilly before proceeding next to the bed. “Aw, my darling, you say the sweetest things. I wish to make every one of those dreams come true.” Slowly he pulled the tie apart to loosen the tightness on his neck. He unbuttoned the top of his shirt, revealing the scar that remained on his throat from that fateful accident. Continuing his task, he removed it quickly. His chest heaved and the definition in his muscles showed. Hayden couldn’t be called a lanky weakling anymore. In the time he’d been with David, he became stronger physically and mentally. In fact, David and Hayden had switched the roles with the good Doctor taking control in their relationship, much different from the first couple of years of their committed time together.
Still, David had the mental edge, able to keep his thoughts hidden from his lover about certain things; this adulterous affair in the brain being one of them. “Yes…” Aroused beyond belief, his eyes followed Hayden’s.
The former coroner unbuckled his belt and his slacks dropped to a pool around his ankles.
David smiled and moistened his lips, gazing at his partner’s hardened muscle, leaking the liquids of his desire. His own groin filled quickly and the tip of his erection throbbing, pulsating. “Hayden…you…”
“Mhmm…” In a couple of minutes, he was fully bare in front of him and hovered over David, looking deeply into his blue pools. “You are…”
“Mine…I could not love any other.” David gripped onto the sides of the bed, waiting for his lover to cuff and restrain him as he liked.
“And you won’t,” he hissed while clasping his wrists into the black bands. “Never…ever…again!”

Vertigo - M/M Paranormal Romance

Good morning!

Here is a little blatant promo for you. I had my blogtour for Vertigo at the beginning of February. Response has been awesome but just in case you missed it, I've provided the blurb and another excerpt from my precious novella that will have a sequel coming soon.

I gasped at the sight of his body, shocked at the specimen strolling towards me. So firm and perfect were his muscles. The flesh between his legs, large and uncut so gorgeous I could not stop gawking. This was the first time I had seen anyone fully nude in over a year. My own manhood stirred just observing the lovely sight in front of me.
"Erm, David, really, you are unclothed. No need to come over here in that state," I shuddered and gulped hard.
He inched closer. "Doctor, you have seen things and humans without garments before, what is the issue now?" Within seconds, he kneeled down in front of me, again and reached his hand out towards me.
"David I…" I stuttered and moved slightly away from his grasp.
David placed his warm finger on my lips.
"Doctor, I want to prove to you that I am just as human as you are. I swear I will not harm you. Please sir, help me discover myself; how I came to be this half human, half monster."
My eyes did not leave his. "And how do you suppose I could do that?" I pulled my flask out of my side pocket and gulped a large portion.
"You are the Doctor but we can help each other. Something tells me, you need to find yourself too, right?"
"How do you know what I need to do, David?"
David chuckled, "I have heard from someone I know very well that you may need to rediscover who Dr. Hayden Curry is."
Whom is he speaking of?
At that moment, not much space remained between us. As much as I wanted to get up off the floor, I sat there still staring into the pupils of this creature. How did he know I needed to find myself?
"Doctor, you are still perspiring, shall I fetch you some water," David peered at me with longing eyes.
"Erm, that will be quite appreciated thank you." Although I answered, David still sat there gawking at me. "Uh is there a problem, David?"
David smiled nervously, "Um Doctor, I am noticing the sweat collecting on your forehead. Do you mind if-" he paused, wrung his hands, and glanced in the other direction. "I want to consume it if that's alright with you."
At the finish of his admission, his blues met my terrified hazels. "What do you mean, 'consume'? As in…"
"Doctor, your sweat is what brought me out of my death–like sleep. In order to survive, I must have something from a human, whether it be sweat, flesh, or things of that sort, to wake from a stiff slumber."
Shocked by his explanation, I took another drink. "So you are saying, if I let you taste my perspiration, you will stay alive?"
Seemingly worried about my reaction, he only nodded to answer my question.
What kind of creature was this?
"Very well, I suppose it should be alright. Should I try putting it on a cloth or…" I grabbed the handkerchief out the pocket of my apron.
"No Doctor, I just want to place my tongue there and take it into my mouth, if you would allow me to, that is."
What?
"David, I don't think so."
"Please doctor, with all due respect, it is much healthier for me that way." David looked at me with apologetic eyes.
"Erm, well I guess, as long as you…"
The minute I said that, he leaned forward, dragging his tongue across my head.
"Okay David, I think you have gotten it all off there now," I chuckled while feeling a stir beneath my trousers.
"Mmm," he moaned and continued to lap the moisture from my brow.
"David, please, that will be enough." I pushed him slightly as I thought I felt him gently nipping at my flesh.
"Mmmrrr," he growled, holding my hand against his chest. The heart rapidly beat.
I shuddered at what my perspiration did to him. "Ugh, David!" I screeched. David sampled the skin right under my hairline.
With all my might, I shoved him away.
He grabbed my hands.
I looked into his eyes that had flames burning in his pupils. Terror struck me.
"Doctor Curry, you will be mine, yes?" His smile matched the expression.
"What, no, I… let me go!" I attempted to get him off of me. I pushed and struggled.
He held on. "You are mine, Dr. Hayden Curry. I have tasted you; I am part of you, as you are a part of me."
Within seconds, he brought me into him, taking my lips inside his. Literally and physically, he started devouring my mouth.
Although fear ran through me, my loins enjoyed the feeling of another being. His mouth tasted like a sweet fruit and when his tongue met mine the stir down below turned into more of  disruption.
"Uh, David, what are you doing, let me go," I tried to unleash myself from his grasp.
We fought.
He overpowered me and pushed me down to the floor. When he lay on top of me our crotches met. I felt myself weakening. I could not fight him off anymore.
What a fool I would be to trust him.
