Wednesday Briefs #41 - Valios and Calisto

Good morning

This story has definitely ran it's course

Meaning it's time to plot out Valios and Calisto's book

So this is the last brief I'm doing for them. I hope you enjoyed it.

Let's use the prompt Can You Mend a Broken Heart

Can You Mend a Broken Heart?

Calisto! No, what are you doing?

A telepathic voice sounded in Calisto’s head as he stood waiting for the final blow from the demon he loved. He knew this move would get Valios’ attention but also someone’s in the heavens, either Michael’s or the Father’s.

Calisto!

“Leave me be, Michael! I want the man I love to put me out of my misery! Better death than to be with someone I’ll love!” Calisto stuck out his chest and opened his arms, waiting for Valios to give the final blow to strike him down. Tears fell from his eyelids and beads of sweat gathered on his brow. His heart thudded against his ribs, afraid of what the demon was capable of but this he knew would be the only way. “Valios…” Calisto gnashed his teeth. “Now!”

Valios vehemently shook his head and got up from his kneeling position. He balled his hands at his sides and walked away, not saying another word. Seemingly, Valios was at odds with his father and himself, not wanting to do as Calisto asked. “No Calisto! Michael, come take your fellow angel away, forever! Take his wings away, whatever you have to do to keep him away from me!”

On cue, winds swirled around Calisto, pulling him from the realms of hell. He’d come on his own accord, not telling anyone of his whereabouts. This would land him in a heap of trouble but he felt Valios to be worth it. “No!” Calisto reached out for Valios, hoping he’d grab hold to him. “Valios, please!”

“Never angel! Go back to where you belong!” Valios didn’t bother to turn around and look Calisto in the eye. “Goodbye forever, my love. We will meet again…someday during the great war!”

“No!” Calisto closed his eyes tight, struggling to stay in the realm but the force from above was too strong. His nails scratched the tiles as the strong gusts drove him backwards. Undoubtedly Michael, the strongest angel was the one doing this. Calisto and Michael were constantly at odds. He never thought Michael would save him from this dangerous fate.

Calisto! You are in an unsafe place. The demons will feast upon you at any moment! Come back to where you belong. You have proved your point.

“Ugh!” Calisto yelled feeling the wind whipping around his head. Bitter cold air sent chills throughout his body. “Valios…” His teeth chattered as he attempted to speak to his lover one last time before Michael forced him back into the heavens. “You do…love me, you care for me…”

“Yes…” Valios answered but still did not move from his position. “Now go, angel before my inner instincts turn on you or worse yet, my father takes you for his own little toy!”

Calisto winced, not able to hold on any longer. In moments, Michael’s power drove him backwards, away from the realm and out of Valios sight. Calisto flew through the clouds, back into the heavens. “Umph.” Calisto landed with a thud, feeling the pain of being hurled backwards with such power. He shook his head and moistened his chapped lips, stinging from the cold.

“Calisto? Have you gone mad?” Michael’s voice rang in Calisto’s ears.

Calisto moved his brown curls from his face but didn’t look around, knowing Michael’s disappointment in him. In reality, he could care less if Michael was upset. Michael wasn’t the one he had to please. “No, I haven’t. The being I love doesn’t desire me…”

“That being you love is a monster, Calisto.” Michael kneeled down and caressed Calisto’s forehead. His face was stern but his eyes were soft, seemingly filled with compassion. “You could’ve been killed by anyone there, Calisto. You are powerful but not enough to withstand the wrath of Lucifer or his minions.”

“I didn’t want to!” Calisto dropped his head, shying away from Michael’s touches. His flesh was still tender from the journey and the cold wind. “What I want, doesn’t want me back but…” Calisto clutched his chest and sighed deeply. “I can take some comfort knowing that he loves me and always will.” He brought his legs up to his body and lay his head on his knees. “Valios had the chance to kill me and did not. That in itself says something.”

“Perhaps but…you know you cannot love him now, right? Angels and demons cannot coexist. I read his heart, Calisto. He does feel for you, this is true but he would always have the desire to torture or kill you. Deep down he is a killer…”

“Of men, humans, not of angels…” Calisto interrupted. “Not me, Michael…he did not hurt me.”

“Maybe not then but he would always want to. His father would want him to, Calisto.” Michael got up and stretched his hand out for Calisto to take. “Come, Calisto… come talk to the Father and tell him your woes. He is willing to forgive you for this stunt but you must forget the demon Valios being your lover. We’re just not meant to be in relationships together, Calisto…not ever.”

Calisto still wouldn’t believe that regardless of what Michael said. Deep down, he knew he could be with Valios without selling his soul to Lucifer. There had to be some kind of way for the two of them to live in harmony as they were, but how? Calisto had to find a way. He would not live with anyone else nor leave Valios in the realms of hell to rot alone. Calisto shook his head, looking away from Michael. “Please do me a favor and tell the Father I shall be along shortly…”

“Why Calisto? He wishes to see you to talk about your desires for the demon. In truth, you should be punished for leaving the heavens on your own accord, especially to the realms of hell. He is giving you a chance to explain your actions.”

Calisto wrapped his robe tighter around his body, still feeling a slight chill in his bones. He wished to be left alone to wallow in his own grief. “I am aware but…I need to heal, Michael.”

“For what Calisto? Do not tell me you are that upset about this. I’m aware you feel for the demon but…”

Calisto hugged himself. “I love him, Michael. I always will regardless of what anyone says to me and now that I know he feels the same it makes this so much worse.”

Michael kneeled down again to Calisto’s level and rubbed his head. “You’ll get over it, Calisto. You will love again and next time it will be the right person…”

“Never will I love anyone a much as I love Valios.” He rubbed his own arms and sniffed, “My heart belongs with the soul catcher, Michael…it always will. It’s broken…and nothing will ever be right without him in my life.”

“Ah Calisto, you are a young angel. You’ll find someone who is much like you and fall in love again. Trust me.” Michael lightly patted his shoulder.

Calisto shrugged away from the angel’s touches. “Can you mend a broken heart, Michael? I had no idea I could have one until now.” Fresh tears ran down Calisto’s cheeks, feeling the pain of rejection. “I’ll never love anyone like I did Valios…and I never will.”

Greetings.

I'm excited to be doing the briefs again and dusting off Valios and Calisto.
Yes I realize, they need their story sooner than later

“No, no, I cannot…I will not!” Valios wrestled himself away from Calisto’s clutches, nearly tumbling over in a heap. “Stay away from me, angel. You and I cannot be together. I cannot love you, I will not go against the desires of my father for you.”

Calisto dropped his head a moment and moistened his lips. “Valios…”

“No, no…” Valios shook his head and shifted away in a hurry so as not to see the beautiful angel up close. Surely the more time they spent together, the more he would desire to be with him. “Go away, Calisto. Go back to your heavenly bed and be with someone good, someone holy like yourself. We don’t belong together…” Valios clutched his heart when he spoke the words. The pain of those scathing remarks seared through his burning flesh making him wince.

“Valios, I cannot and will not leave without you. We belong together, you know this. Despite the way we fought back then, you know I did not mean to hurt you.” Calisto ran up behind him, holding him from behind, cradling him around his waist. “Valios, I had the chance to kill you then and leave you as a pile of dust with just the force of my hand. I could not do it Valios because I knew in my heart I belonged with you. Don’t discard me Valios. You know you love me just the same. As Cal or as Calisto, you love me. There is no denying that.” Calisto leaned against Valios, nuzzling the space underneath his ear.

Valios lowered his lids, feeling tears well up inside of him. Just from Calisto’s hands touching him, smoke rose from his flesh, melting his cold outer exterior, stirring something real in his frozen heart. Valios nibbled on his bottom lip until it went numb. “Calisto…no… I cannot. I…I admit, I do have feelings for you in the depths of my soul. Those will never go away but we are from two different worlds, you are good, squeaky clean, while I am bad, vile, disgusting. I wish to do nothing but harm to people who cross my path while you want to help.”

Calisto fondled Valios sides and leaned on his shoulder. “You were once one of God’s angels, Valios. You fell out of favor when you questioned his methods but God is very forgiving. If you show yourself worthy of another chance he will give it to you.”

Thinking of the fateful day, Valios bit down on his lip a little harder, breaking skin. When he cursed God and was hurled from the heavens was a sad day for all, including Calisto. He’d been around longer than the angel prince but it didn’t stop him from being attracted to the next in line to the wretched Michael. Could he ever live amongst them just for Calisto’s sake?

Never.

Valios wouldn’t. He enjoyed being a soul catcher, taking human souls and feeding upon them for his own pleasure. There was no hope for his cold heart to thaw out and completely change. Not for Calisto and certainly not for the so called God. “Ugh…” With all his strength, Valios shrugged his shoulders and broke away. The force drove the lithe Calisto backwards.

Calisto slid across the clear tiles until his back hit the wall. Speckles of gold dust flew off his body. He shook his head. “Oh Valios, I feel it in your heart. You love me, I know this. I sensed the good energy coming from you.”

Valios wrinkled his nose and raised an eyebrow. “Never angel, no good, just hurt from the father disowning me. I will never see his side of it, Calisto and I won’t go back to that side either when I know where I belong.”

Calisto sighed and rubbed the corners of his eyes. He gulped hard and kneeled with his head held high. “Then I know what you must do in order to make us both happy, Valios.”

Valios spun on his heel, meeting the angelic blue eyes of his beloved nemesis. He crossed his arms over his chest, waiting on the answer. “And what is that, Calisto?  Despite my feelings towards you the only thing that will…” Valios knew nothing of happy. Content was the better word. He could feel content with something.

Happy and content with Calisto.

“Urgh!” Valios grit his teeth. “You must leave me, Calisto. That would leave me content…”

Calisto shrugged his robe from his shoulders, revealing beautiful tanned, glowing skin. “No Valios, the only way I will leave is by you destroying me. I will not be content nor happy without you. Strike me down and put me out of my misery. Send me to the lake of fire where I belong.”

Valios’ eyes widened and he vehemently shook his head.

No.

No way would he hurt Calisto. Not with the feelings that lingered in his cold heart. He wanted the angel to go back to the heavenly realm and live forever with someone of his kind. Though it would hurt Valios to see him with someone else, that’s the way it had to be. Demon and angels could not be together. Ever. “No, Calisto, I will not hurt you. Go back to where you belong…”

“No, Valios. I won’t, not without you. I won’t live in happiness without the man I love more than anything including my eternal existence. Hit me with your best shot, demon!” Calisto huffed and his eyes turned a deep shade of crimson. “Destroy me, Valios! Send me to purgatory for your father to eat my soul alive!”

Valios continued to shake his head and the tears froze on his cheeks. Despite what he was saying in his head, his father encouraged him through telepathy to destroy the angel as he’d asked.

Do me proud, son. Kill him! Destroy him!

“No, Father! No Calisto. I will not, I won’t hurt you or a hair on your pretty head.” Valios dropped to his knees and softly caressed the angel’s cheek. He traced the warm tears and sweat on Calisto’s face. “No… regardless of what you or anyone says to me, I will not hurt you. Ever.”

Wednesday Briefs #39 - Calisto and Valios

Greetings people

Ah I haven't done the briefs in a while so here is Calisto and Valios once again with the prompts

You Know What I Want

Back on earth

“Ugh…” Valios paced the floor of his room, wearing out the floorboards underneath his feet. Sweat beaded on his brow and his mouth tasted like sandpaper. Why on earth was he nervous to meet his picked mate? No one knew him better than his father, so of course he wouldn’t make a mistake now would he?

No way!

Not ever would his creator select the wrong kind of man for him when he knew exactly what he needed, desired and craved.

No he doesn’t because you desire Calisto.

“Ugh!” Valios grasped his long strands between his fingers and pulled hard, causing pain in his scalp. Why did he want that angel, the one that slashed his face and shamed him in front of all of his immortal peers? Calisto was the enemy after all. There was no possible way they could be lovers when they were on the opposite sides of the spectrum. The laws created by the Gods said so, prohibiting any kind of fraternization between demon and angel.

But…but… I love him.

Valios let go of his hair and clenched his heart while he fell to his knees in obvious agony. How could he love his enemy so much when he tricked him into bed earlier? Valios grit his teeth and covered his face in shame, weeping uncontrollably. How would he get over this fascination in time to meet his potential mate? Valios had no clue how and at the moment, he wished he were anywhere else right now instead of here awaiting the new man his father had picked for him to love.

“You’ll never get over me, Valios! Give in to me. Be mine for the rest of our days.” A loud voice from up above sounded from out of nowhere.

“Calisto… leave me be. I am about to meet the man my father has selected to be my mate. Someone of my own kind…” Valios heart sunk when he spoke the words. He really didn’t want this being that his creator was looking to set him up with.

“I am your kind. We are both immortals… lonely, looking for eternal partners. Nothing about that is wrong, Valios.” Calisto spoke and speckles of gold dust formed into a body, so beautiful, tanned and muscled. Calisto’s  brown tresses fell helplessly over his broad and bare shoulders. His gown only covered his waist, leaving very little to the imagination but Valios had already seen that glorious body naked.

“Wow…” Valios mumbled to himself and gawked at the sight, staying put on his knees. He wanted to worship this man, be his love slave until the end of eternity. He’d give up just about everything to be with Calisto if he could do so without drawing the wrath of his father. Valios shook his head, attempting to reclaim his focus and not give in. “Why do you come, Calisto? You have already got what you ultimately wanted. You tricked me into bed with you. Why have you returned?”

Calsito’s light brown eyes gleamed, turning into the same hue as glow surrounding his lithe frame. “You know what I want, Valios. You, I come for you, my love. Please allow me to take you back to the realm and prove to our fathers that we are worthy of a chance to reside together.”

“Bah!” Valios jumped to his feet, reluctantly shifting away from the beautiful angel. Despite his attempt to ignore the lovely specimen, his cock stirred in his trousers, straining against the zipper. Nothing he wanted more right now than to be in Calisto’s arms, holding, kissing him, making love for the rest of their days. He wished to penetrate that glorious ass and spill his seed into the angel, claiming him as his own. Valios didn’t want the other man his father talked about, no not at all. Instead, he desired the angel Calisto to be his lover. Still, he couldn’t show weakness even when the angel most likely detected his insecurity. “No…Calisto… we cannot. The rules forbid it. We won’t…”

“But we can, Valios. You must prove to my father you are worthy of my love. Show him that you do have love in your heart and he will grant us the chance, Valios. He will show his mercy and dispel the rule allowing us to be lovers.” Calisto ran up to him, wrapping his strong arms around Valios body, squeezing him tight. “Please, Valios. Please show him we are made for one another.” Calisto leaned in, nuzzling his nose against Valios skin.

“Mmmphh…” Valios cold flesh turned warm underneath Calisto’s soft touch. His dick ached to be inside Calisto and his heart was softening with each passing minute. Could he prove to the higher power that he was willing to change just to have the chance at love with Calisto?

Valios sensed himself swaying in that direction but what would he say to his father?

Wednesday Briefs #38

Good morning folks

And yet more from Calisto and Valios.

Too bad I can't write their full at this point but I hope this will tide you over!

Prompt today is Crazy in Love

“Impossible! How could I be so foolish?” Valios grit his teeth while he walked aimlessly over the lake of fire in the depths of hell. He’d been tricked, bamboozled by a son of God and yet he never noticed, didn’t see it coming. Valios couldn’t figure out why this bothered him so other than the fact an angel had gotten through his security at the club. Calisto knew the password and was able to disguise himself to hide his true identity.

I should’ve known something was off.

Yes he should’ve and even before he’d done the deed with Calisto, something told him to stop. Did he have a conscience? Or was his father trying to tell him he’d been fooled? Despite all this Valios felt something in his heart for the human Calisto tried to be and the wretched being himself. Why? Why the hell did he have these longings for someone he should ultimately despise?

“You are in love my son?”

A voice thundered over his head with the skies opening and raining small flames. Oh fuck! His father sounded angry and here came the embarrassment Valios had been dreading for the last few hours since he’d run away from his quarters in shame.
“No! I’m…I…” Valios dropped to his knees and bowed his head. “Please father, forgive me. I am your favorite am I not? You must see how that…that thing tricked me into bed.”

“If you were thinking clearly about your tasks at hand instead of having sex, then perhaps you would’ve figured out Calisto’s plan.”

Suddenly the flames slowed and eventually vanished. Valios rose to his feet once again but didn’t bother to hold his head up. “I am so sorry, father. I have disappointed you, shamed your good name. Do what you will with me and I shall find my way.”

“No… Valios. You are indeed my favorite out of all my demons. I only ask for you to be careful from this day forward and not be taken by the charms of men. I know you are lonely, son, which is why I have done the search for you and found the appropriate mate. He is a soul catcher demon much like you and needs to be taught properly. You will meet him soon enough but I must be sure you aren’t in love with the angel.”

Valios gulped hard and balled his hands into fists. His nails pierced the flesh, leaving deep marks on his palms. Visions of fucking Calisto’s humanly form Cal replayed in his mind. The smell of manly musk, aftershave infiltrated his nose. He’d enjoyed the scent on his collar and wished he could smell it again.

Oh and the wings when they were done, so fucking beautiful, white, fluttering behind that lithe frame he’d come to appreciate. Calisto was a sight to behold, his body so soft in some areas, hard in others; perfect in every way. While sliding his cock in and out of that luscious ass, something woke in Valios he’d never felt before. A longing, a need to be loved by someone he thought he despised.

When Calisto slashed his face all those years ago, Valios was ashamed to say he’d been beaten by an immortal so much smaller in stature but a part of him was grateful the angel hadn’t done anything more. And then, there was the lingering feelings he had for Calisto. The desire to be with him, the want to be at his side even though he’d shamed him by cutting his beautiful face. Why on earth did he want anything to do with this man? Why did he have these emotions for someone who’d given him the permanent scar.

No it can’t be?

Could he be… in love? Fucking ridiculous! Valios shuddered at the thought of having such feelings for the immortal he’d hated over the decades. Or did he really hate him at all? Could he be masking his true emotions for Calisto?

“Looks like I have my answer, Valios. I am reading your heart and I don’t like what I’m seeing. Angels and demons aren’t supposed to fall in love, son. And how is it possible the most evil of my sons falls crazy in love with the second angel on the hierarchy? Valios?”

No…

Valios covered his face with his hands and trembled uncontrollably. What punishment could possibly come down for him from his father? No way would he accept this admission and allow him to continually exist. He’d enjoyed life on earth, taking human souls and gaining knowledge and inspiration for each one. Never keeping any because they weren’t up to par, they weren’t special enough…

Weren’t Calisto?

“Bah!” Valios waved his hands and his brows furrowed. His despair quickly turned into rage. “I assure you father, it is only lust and it has been heightened since Calisto and I spent time in bed. But it will disappear in a few days and I’ll be ready to meet…the…” Valios shook his head, not believing what he was saying. He didn’t want anyone else more than Calisto. He couldn’t admit it for decades and even when they sparred, he couldn’t hate him enough to strike him down. Crazy in love indeed. But why when there were so many immortals of his own kind and mortals walking around that he could enjoy without enraging his father?

Valios would have to get rid of these desires before his father saw the need to banish him from the depths into the abyss forever. His feelings for the wayward angel must subside or it would cost him his eternal existence.

Wednesday Briefs #37

Greetings!

I know its been so long since I did the briefs and not wicked sis, BLMorticia but since Rawiya is writing now and BL is next in line with hers, Shar is giving me the chance to write some for the briefs.

Today, and most likely in weeks to come, I'll be revisiting the story Demon Be Mine from the
Only That Night Anthology.

The story is a angel/demon tale with a soul catcher by the name of Valios and his adversary, Calisto. Its a tale of forbidden love and deceit.

Demon Be Mine Blurb: Valios, the soul catcher demon, is searching for his longtime companion and meets him at his club that same evening. This someone isn’t a complete stranger. What will happen when he finds out who his newfound friend is?

Read the full story here to get a sense of the tale.

For today's prompt, I'm doing One is the Loneliest Number

Calisto, second in line to the Archangel Michael, sat at the foot of Valios’s bed, sobbing about his eternal mate’s departure. Although it was wrong for angels and demons to have relations, Calisto still desired to be with the deadly soul catcher and make him part of his existence. But would the Creator understand his plight? Would he see that Calisto was suffering from being alone? Due to his magnificent efforts in the heavens and on earth, he’d been lauded with much praise for his work. Being on top of the heap and celebrated by angels was great to an extent, still, he was only one immortal, one with no partner, no one to call his very own.

One is the loneliest number.

His heart thudded against his ribs and he nibbled on his bottom lip, thinking of the lengths he’d gone to just to be with Valios and how this might cause trouble for him and his relationship with the creator in the near future. Still, he wasn’t deterred by this and intended to keep his obligation to find the soul catcher, trap him, and make him his eternal partner. But how would be able to turn a soul so evil, with such a lust for pain and despair into the life loving, kind individual Calisto was?

“You already know the answer, Calisto.” A deep voice rumbled from overhead, jilting him from his own thoughts. The bed trembled from the small quake, crossing from one end of the room to the next. Obviously from the tone, it was the Creator speaking to him.

“I…” Calisto slightly lifted his head from between his knees. His white wings fluttered behind him and speckles of gold dust fell upon the floor boards. “I know I can change him, Father. Just give me a chance.”

“You had the chance to be with him, Calisto, You only asked for one night, not to make him your eternal mate! He is dangerous, Calisto. He sucks the life from humans and has little regard for life in general. He's been around way too long to suddenly make a transformation. You know the human saying, you cannot teach an old dog, new tricks. Well this, my son, is one of those instances.”

Calisto shuddered and the tears continued to fall from his lids. He wanted Valios, needed him, so badly he could taste him. When faced with the decision to kill him all those years ago, he couldn’t bring himself to do it and slashed his face instead, making Valios very angry, never to return to the realm between heaven and earth again. It was the only place angels and demons could meet on equal footing and when the war raged on between heaven and hell, the Angels were given a choice; to slaughter every demon in sight or to spare some of them for future existence. The latter was chosen by Michael and the other angels as a peace offering between the deities. The Creator and Michael still thought humans and beings of all kinds should be given a choice of who or what they wanted to serve.

Through this transition, Calisto built a longing for Death’s wayward son but dismissed it for centuries, saying it was only lust and nothing more. However over the past few decades, his desires for Valios had grown. He observed the demon from above, taking souls and giving them to his maker, not taking any of them for his personal enjoyment. Calisto thought this was Valios way of keeping a space for them to be together. When the worlds of angels and demons would coexist and accept one another completely. Calisto saw this day coming but it would only work if both makers agreed on some kind of truce.

“Calisto? You are dreaming again, my angel. Why? Why do you wish to take this evil being as your mate?” At the end of the Creator’s sentence, a cloud of smoke appeared over his head, swirling in a circular motion. Flashes of light beamed from above, shining on him and the floor, illuminating the entire space.

Calisto gulped hard, wiping his face of the moisture. Was his father sending someone to talk to him or was he preparing him for punishment for his answer? “I…um…” Calisto glanced down at his naked feet, wigging his toes. “What will happen to me if I answer truthfully? Will you thrust me into the depths of hell and make me suffer? Will I lose my wings or my ability to walk or fly?”

“Nothing my dear, son. That is why I gave you the opportunity to be with the evil Valios in the first place. I could’ve struck you down when you cursed me back in the alley but I love you, Calisto. You are my star angel, right behind Michael. You are needed to lead us into the next century and beyond. I value all your strengths and do whatever it takes to make you happy.”

A loud rumble and a small quake shook the floor underneath Calisto’s feet. Frightened, he clenched his teeth and bed covers up under his nails. “My dearest Creator… I love him. I love Valios and I want the chance to be with him. Perhaps you are right that he can’t be changed but…” Knowing that his response could come with dire consequences, he dropped his head and closed his eyes tightly. “I still want him, father. And if he doesn’t change, I ask for a meeting of the deities to build a bridge for the two of us to be together.”

“Ah, Calisto, you have such high hopes of the nether world and the heavens being able to coexist.”

“But we do now, father. We just aren't allowed to copulate with one another. Surely there are many angels and demons who are in the same situation. I cannot be the only one plagued by this binding rule.” Calisto straightened, putting his feet on the floor. He had to make the Creator understand where he was coming from and exactly what he was asking. Calisto’s wings flopped behind him, spreading. He stood to let them fan out. Missing Vailos, he walked away from the bed in which he made love to his desired. “Please father, give me the chance to show you how this can be changed for future angels and demons like myself. You have always been such a forgiving and loving god, able to see the good in everyone, including the demons.”

“Yes, but Valios is one of those I have yet to see anything good in, Calisto. He has no love in his heart.”

“No, father. He does. I witnessed it tonight while in bed with him. He is hardened because he is not inspired to love but with me as his partner, he might soften his ways and let his light shine through."

Book Review: Faelon by AJ Kelton

Book Review: Faelon
AJ Kelton

Greetings readers. I recently read the book Faelon by AJ Kelton and I was super excited to do so. A book about a nephilim, a three thousand year old immortal who tries to live in modern day. Just the premise of it excited me, especially since I love stories about angels and demons. However, in my opinion, the story fell flat and because of a few of glaring errors, I can’t rate it above a 2.5.

First the positives. The author paints a beautiful picture of this angel, Faelon who’s been abused for centuries. His black wings, he’s half human, half angel and being chased by a demon called Cayman makes for an awesome story. Then there’s the other man, Jax, who’s a security guard, a historian who comes to know Faelon and once he gets over the initial shock of the black wings, seems to fall in love with him. Again, makes for a great story right? Well yes but I feel the author missed out on some great opportunities for a more enjoyable piece.

The negatives in my opinion were distractions for this book. The POV head hopping which happened way too often in the book. When the first occurred I had to go back and make sure I wasn’t seeing the wrong thing. Sort of took me out of the story. Also, I felt the characters fell short of being brilliant. In my opinion, Faelon and Jax weren’t complete. We’re beaten over the head with the fact Faelon is a sex slave, loves it rough, and seems to need this abuse to feel wanted. Since I’m not into extreme BDSM, some of the things Faelon went through troubled me. It’s not the author’s fault at all that it’s not my cuppa. However, my major problem was the character Jax and how the seemingly mild mannered security guard became a dom, doing things to Faelon that bordered on abuse. I got that Faelon was immortal and could take a lot of it but I felt some of the actions by Jax were forced. From what the author showed, he just didn’t seem like the kind of person to be doing these things. Perhaps easing us into his transformation with a couple of light acts then a gradual change to experienced dom would’ve worked better. Again, it’s only my opinion but once I got to the middle of the book, I felt like it was torture just for the sake of shock value. I found myself skimming through the sex scenes to get to the next part.

Lastly the very confusing turn of events at the end. He unites with his former master Delgorio because he’s terrified of the Cayman and asks for help. The tension between Jax and Delgorio is definitely there and I wanted to know more about their relationship. He seemed to leave as quick as he came which was disappointing. There would’ve been another opportunity for the plot to go deeper but instead the author didn’t explore that more.

I really wanted to like this book. It had promise and an angel who begs to be loved makes for a great novel but this story’s glaring errors and forced sex made me wish for the ending. That being said, I would still like to read the sequel if there is one. I want to know more about Faelon and how he gets away from the Cayman while trying to survive in the modern world with a human lover. Hopefully the author will do build on that more in the next story. If so, I'd gladly give it a look.
