Closely Guarded, COMPLETE!

Finally first draft is done on Closely Guarded. Really excited. I'm going to let it sit a while and fester before I return to it.

Since I didn't do Saturday Sips, how about a small sample?

The woman said nothing and quickly left the room, slamming the door behind her.

BA turned to Kimball. “You buyin’ her act?”

“Not for a second. Her lover, Boris Metrikov is mighty interesting. He had ties to one of the Russian mobs but was never convicted of any crimes. Why weren’t we able to bring him in for questioning?”

“Dunno, man. Seemed like Brenda would’ve seen that in Borvetta’s file.”

BA took a seat at the table and continued to read her rap sheet. Convictions: Theft, assault and battery, disturbing the peace. She’s a real winner isn’t she?

“There should be a file here for him too, right? I mean, seems to me that should’ve been a no brainer.”

“Yeah.” Kimball plopped down in the chair next to him. “She’s slippin’, man. We need to go to the authorities and get that since he’s not part of the Freedom Party. Should be pretty easy too since the police are willing to cooperate.”

“Yeah… too bad we can just bring this lady in on my hunches.” BA massaged his temples and closed his eyes. “We really need to draw these fuckers out their hiding places. We’re gettin’ nowhere right now!”

“I know. The chief is gonna want a report soon too. We really don’t have anything yet.”

“Well, were gonna have to do something to move this along by luring them to Nikolay. No question they want him dead because they don’t want him to take over the Freedom Party.”

“So, we should give them a shot at killin’ him once again.”

“What? Kimball cocked an eyebrow. “You mean give them a free shot at him?”

“Not really him, Kim. An imposter. In the meantime, we need to move Nikolay to a safe place.”
“And how will we find someone to play him?”

BA smirked and propped his combat boots on the table in front of him. “You remember Nikolay talked about being part of the fashion world? That means, he knows some hot model, male or female that can pose for him.”

“Oh yeah, liking your angle there B, keep talkin’.”

“So if we can get the model in and smuggle Nikolay out. Then we make sure Borvetta and company know that he’s at home with Ivan alone.”
Kimball stroked the fine brown hairs on his chin and nodded, “I like that. Are we gonna tell Ivan about this whole plan?”

“We’ll let him in on part of it. After talking to Petrev earlier I’ve pretty much crossed that ass off the list. To be on the safe side, we’ll still keep Nikolay’s location secret. I’m sure he has plenty of friends who can put him up for a couple of days.”

“This sounds like a great idea, B. We need to bring Brenda in to tell her…”
BA grabbed Kimball’s arm. “We’ll let her in on a little. Even though Petrev passed our questions, I still wanna keep it a secret from him.”

“He’s gotta help though, B.”

“I’ll tell them we gotta plan but that’s as far as I’ll go.”

Kimball nodded and took his hand. “You got that same feeling I got don’cha friend? Someone’s telling the conspirators about our moves. Someone knew about Nikolay’s change of plans…”

“And Nadiya had to have told someone that Nikolay was alone. She didn’t act on her own either.” BA stared at Kimball blankly. No wonder the two of them had been best friends for so long. They thought too much alike.

“Yep, let’s get outta here so we can get this all planned out with Nikolay. I don’t like being around this place right now.” Kimball stood up as did BA.

Quickly, they grabbed the folders and made their way down the hallway, not bothering to stop to find Brenda. Something told BA Brenda wasn’t there anyway.

Once they made it outside, BA began putting pieces together in his head. Brenda slippin’, no file on Mertikov, Borvetta’s lover…

“C’mon, B. Let’s get in the car!”

BA snapped out of it at the sound of Kimball’s voice.

Quickly, Kimball opened the door and got it. Before he started the ignition, he stopped a moment and yelled. “No, don’t!”

Hope that intrigued you a little. :D Wish me luck on my submission for this in the next couple of weeks.
