Welcome Patricia Logan!

Greetings readers! Welcome to another guest post here at Michael’s. I’m excited to have on a lady I’m happy to call a friend. I love her sense of humor on Facebook, (one of the main reasons I stay there) and she’s a fab author to boot. She writes some of the hottest gay bondage tales I know! RAWR

Please give a warm welcome to Patricia Logan or as we call her, Patti! She recently sat down with us for a virtual interview.

*****

MM: First, how long have you been writing?

PL: I started writing as a middle school student and then quit after college. I started a family, had a career and finally, began writing romance about four years ago when the economy basically eliminated my job.

MM: Sounds like my situation. What made you decide that you wanted to put yourself out there to publish?

PL: I thought my stories were good. I always knew I was a creative person and once I finished the second book, which was better than the first book, I decided I’d submit. That second book, a hetero romance got rejected 39 times so I did a little research and found out that erotica was the most up and coming genre and M/M was the most up and coming sub genre so I thought, okay, let me try my hand at this. There’s less competition for sure.

MM: That is true although it’s gotten stiffer as of recently. What is your favorite subgenre to write?

PL: M/M is all I write now and mostly what I read, though I don’t find time to read much anymore. I’m busy writing and promoting my books and posting dirty pictures on Face Book. LOL!

MM: *laughs* Shhh! They’re not supposed to know that! Would you ever write a hetero romance? Why or why not?

PL: I’ve written three and none are yet published. Interestingly, I converted one of them to a M/M/F ménage and that was accepted by Torquere to be published October 12 of this year.

MM: Awesome! Your first published book?

PL: My first published book was “Leather Nights” the first of the “Armadillo” trilogy. My current release is book two “Undercover Nights” and book three of the series “Warrior Nights” comes out June 8th. That’s a M/M/M ménage. I also have an anthology with 4 amazing authors, Ga Hauser, Sue Brown, Sammy Jo Hunt and Lisa Worrall which comes out Sept. 17th called “Chasing the Dream”and the M/M/F ménage “Gypsy Knight” which comes out in October as I mentioned.

MM: Fantastic! Who are the authors that you look up to?

PL: I couldn’t name them all. I can tell you who I read. Ga Hauser, Sue Brown, Sammy Jo Hunt, Lisa Worrall, Lee Brazil, DJ Manly, Cameron Dane, Havan Fellows, Hank Edwards, Johnny Miles and a whole bunch of others.

MM: I have that same list. So, what are you working on now?

PL: I’m finishing up “Chasing Deuce” for the “Chasing the Dream” anthology. I’m also working on the second book of the new “Westburg” series which has some cross over characters from the popular “Armadillo” Trilogy. It’s called “A Very Good Year”. I think when you tie books together with popular characters, it sells more books. I learned that from some mainstream authors who write series and Ga Hauser, who does it magically.

MM: You are so right! GA is one of my faves. If you write gay romance or erotica, just how descriptive are your in their sex scenes?

PL: HA! HA! You’ve read my steamy stuff Michael.

MM: Yes, I have!

PL: I’d honestly have to say… pretty smokin’ hot. Is there a 10 chili rating somewhere? I don’t think you could get much hotter sex on the printed page. I like hot sex and lots of it so my books are full of hot man on man love.

MM: Mmm, yes, great answer. The steamier the better! As a gay fiction writer, do you feel that the trend is changing where it is becoming more mainstream?

PL: Mainstream, I don’t know because you have to have a special taste for gay love. If you don’t, you just won’t read it. I stumbled onto it by accident and have devoured it voraciously ever since.

MM: LOL I didn’t stumble, I dove in. Great answer. Do you think it’s time for publishers to begin calling gay fiction/erotica what it is instead of m/m? Why or why not?

PL: I don’t think it matters what you call it. As authors, we do most of our own promoting anyway. The publishers put it out in ebook form and we promote it. If you like to read it, as a consumer, you’re going to search the internet for it no matter what you call it, gay, man love, erotica, or M/M romance.

MM: That’s true. So, as a fellow fem in the genre, what is your stance on the difference between male and female gay writers?

PL: We’ve talked a lot about this lately. My personal opinion is that we are writing to a female audience for the most part (about 65-70 percent) so, women love romance. If you throw a lot of romance in, then you are going to be a popular author in your genre. I’ve talked to other gay male writers that write in the M/M genre and some agree. One even told me he tried to make his stuff more romantic and not so edgy. And to be honest, women, the demo we sell to, can’t particularly relate to stinky jockstraps and some more raunchy words that some male writers use in their manuscripts. That’s not to say that there aren’t many highly talented male authors of M/M. I love some of them, and get grossed out by others.

MM: Good answer there. So, do you think women being a good portion of the amount of gay fiction writers detracts from the genre? Be honest and why or why not?

PL: I don’t think so at all. Some women write amazing stuff. I just wish they could write under their full names rather than initials. I’ve asked several why they choose to write under their initials and have been told they were afraid they couldn’t sell books if people knew they were women. I find that sad.

MM: Agreed. What are your thoughts on the fact that some gay male writers discriminate against women? I hadn’t thought much about male writers discriminating against women. I’m sure it happens. What ticks me off are the critics that discriminate. I had a reviewer post as part of his review that he didn’t think women had any business writing about what two men do in the bedroom. Well why’d you agree to review the book then, dumb ***? I won’t say what I was going to. I’m trying to be a lady J

MM: Haah! LOL. It’s okay. You should hear me on my rants. I read a blog about gay fiction writer’s losing their imagination because they are writing the same subjects repeatedly, what are your thoughts? http//www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/?p=42883

PL: I have plot bunnies multiplying in my head 24/7, so for me it’s not an issue. I have a very vivid imagination.

MM: Me too, hun. Never an issue with me. So, what is it about gay fiction and or romance that pleasures you to write it?

PL: It makes me hot! I love men with men. I love reading about them, looking at their pictures, watching their porn, all of it. They are beautiful creatures and when they love each other, it’s hot as heck. I am an unabashed pervert and I strive to do them justice in my stories.

MM: Great answer, I definitely agree. So, let me ask you a few fun questions before you go.

Your favorite gay tv show or movie?

PL: “The A-List definitely.” I adore that show. The guys are so darn hot. I just wish they would show more skin.

MM: For the men in your books, commando or underwear?

PL: Mostly boxers but sometimes commando, an occasional tighty-whitey

MM: And the character you identify with?

PL: Jake Maxfield in “Leather Nights” is me, well except for the gay part and the death of my spouse. Other than that, everything that man went through, I did too. I gave him Cade Littlebear because I thought he deserved a hot hunk after the loss of his former career and everything he owned.

MM: And lastly, have you attended a pride parade? If so, where you inspired when doing so?

PL: I’ve been to a couple here in West Hollywood. It was really fun and inspiring. I’m driving up to San Francisco this year in June and working the PFLAG booth and marching with Ga Hauser. That’s a dream come true for me.

MM: Woohoo, that is awesome. Thank you so much Patty, for the interview.

PL: Thank you so much for giving me the forum Michael. It was a pleasure talking with you as always J.

My profile pic is of two lovely kissing boys. You can email me at patricialogan.author@yahoo.com. Here’s a short blurb for “Undercover Nights”:

Gentle Gage Neary has been accused of the most horrific of crimes, murder. The victims are not just anyone; they’re the physical therapist’s innocent patients. Gage doesn’t need more complications in his life. He’s already in the midst of ending a miserable relationship when he finds himself the prime suspect in an FBI investigation. Cody Redsun, the smokin hot FBI agent assigned to investigate the crimes, decides that it’s Gage he’d rather probe for answers.

When they find their own lives threatened, Cody gives himself a new assignment; keep Gage alive until he can find the actual killer. While the true menace to the two men seems to be clear, Cody hides a tortured past that is just as threatening to their deepening bond. As the danger heats up, so do the two men, burning only for each other and the fiery passion that promises to consume them.

Here is a short excerpt:

Gage woke sometime in the night covered in sweat. Cody lay on the bed beside him, the muscles in his arms bunched as he raised his hands against some invisible attacker.

“Stop!” Cody shrieked. “I can’t take it Uncle! Okay! I’ll do it!” Cody was panting, flailing arms, covering his face from unseen blows. “Again, yes again! I will do anything! Please just stop…” he whimpered, a little boy’s voice coming from him. “Please just stop,” he sighed and Gage noticed the blood running from Cody’s lips.

Gage watched the man as his teeth clamped down, cutting into the ragged lips again and again as he tried to bite through them. Gage had to stop this somehow; he realized that Cody was still asleep, though deeply locked in a primal fight for his survival. He reached for him, wrapping his long arms around Cody as he crooned into his ear. “It’s okay baby, I’m here… Gage is here Cody… shh.”

Cody struggled for a moment, his whimpering cries echoing around the walls of the apartment, before going limp in Gage’s arms. Gage continued to rock Cody, absorbing his tears as they fell. Cody wound his arms around Gage, pulling Gage in tight as the silent tears turned to sobs which wracked his body. Gage smoothed his hands over Cody’s back, pushing aside his hair and laying his warm palms directly on the ravaged scars so that Cody would feel the tenderness in his touch. “No more pain Cody, no more. Only love baby. All you feel now is love.”

Cody was sobbing, clinging to Gage as if he’d never breathe again, never be able to escape the beast that filled his memories, his nightmares, the dark places in his soul. Gage could only hope that little by little, he was replacing the beast, filling the empty spaces that the monster had left all those years ago.

Gage moved his palms to another area of Cody’s back, pressing softly against the ravaged skin as Cody’s sobs quieted to silent tears. “Gage?” Cody choked out.

“Yes baby, it’s Gage. I’m here, love. Shh, I’m not leaving.” He moved his warm hands to another place that hadn’t been touched yet, pressing down as he soothed the tortured soul that was Cody.

Cody seemed to relax with Gage’s soft voice at his ear. “I’m sorry Gage. I’m sorry. I never wanted you to know. I wanted to protect you from me.”

Gage couldn’t wrap his mind around the phrase. Was it possible that Cody thought he had anything to do with his own brutalization and was now worried about protecting Gage from himself? “Sorry Cody? Sorry for what?”
