Welcome Cyril J Michael!

Good morning fans!

Happy Monday here at Michae's and I'm happy to have one of my co-authors in the Tina B's GLBT anthology, Cyril J Michael here with a guestpost.

He's the writer of the story, Matt's Magic Fingers and it's his first published story. Big congrats.

Hopefully we'll be able to work together somewhere down the line.

Please enjoy this interview

How long have you been writing?

I have been writing since I could hold a crayon, maybe even before that as I was constantly making up stories and sharing them with my family, friends and pets.

What made you decide that you wanted to put yourself out there to publish?

I’ve always written for myself, not for recognition or any noble cause. I simply write because it is who I am. I am happiest when I am writing, if I do not write I find myself becoming cranky beyond imagination.

Are you in agreement that writing fanfiction is a great way to practice ones craft, why or why not?

As a teen I did some fanfiction writing. I mean who doesn’t fantasize about their favorite tv and movie characters? So I would put myself or my friends into the storylines.
As for if it is a great way to practice your craft I’m not so sure I believe it is. I love stories that are character driven and unless there is a connection I do not enjoy a story no matter how well written or action packed. There isn’t any character development in fanfiction, you are working on characters that someone else already created. I think it is better to build your craft by creating your own plots and characters.

What is your favorite subgenre to write?

I’m a big mystery fan and love when there are elements of suspense in my stories.

Is there one that you haven’t tried that you see yourself doing in the future?

I’m not sure how good I’d be at it but Steampunk is something I’d like to try.

What is your opinion on the “chicks with dicks” analogy? In your opinion, is it wrong for your males to be emotional or romantic?

Why can’t some of my male characters be emotional or romantic? Not all men are stoic, chest-pounding cavemen. I approach all of my characters as individuals and I write them how they need to be written. If I have female characters in my stories they aren’t all going to be stereotypes.

What books are you reading at the moment? It’s okay to give a fellow author a plug!

A Fistful of Emmett by Jambrea Jo Jones
Chocolate Dreams by Em Woods
Earth and Sky by Zahra Owens
Offside by Ryan Loveless

What are you working on now?

I’m working on a few contemporaries and a paranormal project. If someone could find a way to add more hours to the day I’d be ever so grateful.

When creating your characters, do you have models in mind or are they totally fictional?

I hate to sound vague but it really does depend on the character. Some of them pop into my head fully formed, personality and description entact others start as a glimpse of someone I saw in the store or went to high school with.

If you write gay romance or erotica, just how descriptive are your in their sex scenes?

My love scenes tend to be descriptive but on the more heartwarming side. I’m all for sharing what goes on beyond the bedroom door but so far \i haven’t crossed the line to extreme erotica or kink.

Recently, a writer sabotaged her career by answering a bad review on a blog. How would you have handled this and do you think authors should answer their reviews?

I think it’s best to take all reviews with a grain of salt. Don’t get me wrong criticism in any form hurts but I think we have to keep in mind that everyone’s opinion is relative, we all have different tastes and it is what makes the world go round. I’m old school when it comes to reviews. I think authors should not answer their reviews at all or if you must then reply to all reviews good and bad with a simple thank you for your time.

Name two male celebs that you’d like to see in a hot make out session?

Kevin Spacey and Robert DeNiro, I think they would bring such depth of character to the characters.
Your favorite gay tv show or movie?

Okay, okay I’m a little embarrassed to admit it but I love Will & Grace. Jack and Karen always make me laugh.

Do you feel that celebs who are gay or bi should come out the closet?

I think it is a personal choice and one that should be made on an individual basis.

Favorite character in one of your books?

I only have one published story, but I honestly love every one of the characters I’ve ever written.

The male and female, the lead couple and all the supporting characters.

The character you identify with?

There is always something in every character that I identify with, I think I put a little piece of myself in most everyone I write.

If you’ve watched gay porn, tell me your favorite movie and or star.

I’m so vanilla I don’t watch porn. I blush writing my own love scenes.
