The Ideal Side of Love
‘Average, but extraordinary, and only twice in a lifetime.’
Stephen Prichard is a resilient and self-made man that has it all, a successful business, great husband, and a summer condo on the waterfront, until life throws a curve ball. After twelve years together, his husband Myron dies of cancer, leaving Stephen to confront a future of uncertainties alone.
Then, fate lends a hand when not one, but two chance encounters with the same stranger put his feelings to the test. First and second impressions are lasting. Stephen longs for companionship, and the stranger is attractive, however, he’s also enigmatic and cold, and the memories of Myron are still painfully fresh.
Can a man Stephen barely knows renew his faith in love? But, more importantly, is he willing to let go of the past?
Excerpt:
We scarcely made it inside my house before Carson came at me, stripping off his shirt in the process. My rule, no intercourse on the first night, actually not for the first year—and guess what—yep, I was lousy at enforcing my own damned rules. But the situation with him was unusual, certainly different than anything I had experienced, even within my marriage. From what I’d gathered so far, he was a persistent man, and determined to get his way. I’d sensed that when he made a decision it would be absolute. We met. We felt a mutual attraction. So, he’d made up his mind. We were going to spend the weekend together, and I had to assume, if the sex equaled the attraction, we’d be an item.
My lower back rode the edge of the kitchen counter and I struggled to remove my jacket because he refused to stop kissing me. And, I tell you, the man had a set of lips that could suck the paint off drywall. He grabbed my face and used his tongue again. I moaned, completely dazed and dropped my keys. It had been so long since I’d had sex, the only thing on my fevered brain was his mouth and hands all over me, and his cock inside me. The keys were knocked about between our feet. My heart beat hard, my flesh burned under his touch and all my senses were on high alert. Just the scented heat of him, everything about the man drove me wild.
“No disrespect, Stephan,” he gasped, “but we don’t need an audience. I want every inch of you to myself.” He laid Myron’s picture flat then walked me toward the great room by my ribs. We kissed again and he undid my slacks, digging his fingers in under the waistline. “First I’m going to suck you off,” he said, nibbling on my lips. “And then I’m going to make love to you.”
“Don’t I get a say--eh?” my voice spilled with nervous excitement when his tongue flicked my nipples and he strong fingers raked down my spine.
He kissed my stomach, inching down to lick my already rigid cock. Strumming my balls, he started to suck, his head moved back and forth from my groin. Devouring then releasing my shaft. The warm pressure felt unbelievable, coaxing more from me.
No warning. Nothing. My sac tightened to a ridge of wrinkles, my spine arched, and I gawked at the fireplace in the great room, holding his head. All of a sudden, the energy drained from my cock like a geyser. I groaned loud as he swallowed every ounce of my cum.
His hot, sweaty body brushed mine as he rose to face me.
“Where’s your bedroom?” He unsnapped his jeans and sloughed them to the carpet.
“At…at the end of the hall.”
Lifting one foot followed by the other, he stepped away from the worn material, allowing an unobstructed view of his entire body. I glanced down, if for a second, and my breath knotted in my throat.
He was just as I imagined, boxy with muscles to spare. He had smooth, dark-blond hair from collarbones to groin, a hooded cock that wasn’t overly long, but extra wide and extra thick. His balls were big and heavy and his partial erection pressed at my hip. Carson was a powerful man and well defined—certainly bigger than me, and an unusual choice, but attractive, and his piercing stare penetrated my soul.
Holding either side of my rib cage, he walked me backward through the hallway, easing close every few feet to kiss me. At the master bedroom door, he groped blindly in the region of the knob, it clicked and the door swung wide and away from us.
Inside the room, white sheers hung in front of the French doors, just off my private patio—partly concealing the glass panes. Remnants of moonlight distorted by the sweeping motion of tree branches, fluctuated from warm to cold across the carpet and doors.
“It’s pretty dark in here.” I went to flip on the light.
He held my wrist in a steadfast grip. “I like the dark.”
His hips pivoted, and his cock brushed mine—thick and sticky with heat and the heady scent of arousal. Then, he rubbed his groin in a circular motion against my dick and his grew, rising to a throbbing arc. My calves bumped the mattress edge with nowhere else to go. We’d reached my bed, my dick was hard, and the anticipation of human contact sent my senses into a heightened overdrive. As my gaze met his with unease, I tensed, and trembled slightly from the legs up.
“It’s been so long,” I said in a hoarse whisper.
“I’ll take it slow,” he promised in my ear.
We embraced, falling onto the blankets. We kissed and fondled for a long time, getting to know and appreciate each other’s body.
“You’re really sexy.” Massaging my sac gently, he kissed my chin.
“If you say so.”
“I do. Give me a sec.” He rolled over and climbed off the bed.
Resting on my elbows, I kind of sat up to see where he’d go.
“Don’t move.” He paused in the doorway and smiled. “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.”
Thirty seconds later, he reappeared with his duffel bag. Dropping it on the floor, he crouched and unzipped a side pouch. Some type of plastic packaging crinkled then the bed bounced and he knelt between my legs.
“Condoms and lube,” I laughed. “All you had to do was say.”
“What kind of asshole would ask you out on a date and not bring the protection himself?” He tore open a black and neon pink condom wrapper with his teeth—the sound of rubber snapped. “It’s called respect.” Seated on his ankles, he stroked his cock with methodical precision. Soon as it rose to that swollen tower, he pushed the condom down to the base, and twisted open a tube of lubricant. “I was wrong, you’re more than sexy,” he whispered, expressing pure affection. “You’re beautiful.”

Taboo Tens: Day Twenty Eight Catriana Sommers

Greetings fans!

Welcome to day 28 of Taboo Tens month.

Only 2 days remain and I'm sad to see it go at this point. I'm thrilled by all the attention we've received on the net and proud that it went so smoothly.

Today, I welcome back, little sis, Catriana Sommers! She's on fire!

She had her first release, Call Me come out about a week and a half ago, Destined came out Saturday and now, she has this story from Untreed Reads, here called My Will.

Shes giving away a copy of Destined to a lucky commenter!

Here she is with a post to support her release!

Out of all the releases I've had come out this month, the most difficult one for me to write was also the shortest one. Probably because the story is fairly bittersweet. A woman loses her love but gains another, and not in a romantic aspect.

To be honest, I prefer HEA endings because I'm a big softie at heart, but I did nonetheless enjoy writing My Will, as there is a happy ending, just not a conventional one. This was also my first time writing F/F and I have another in the works now. I might turn it into a holiday story, it'd certainly be fitting.

Writing My Will proved to be an enlightening challenge, one I would not mind trying again sometime. To take a typically sad scenario and turn it into something where the reader can still smile and find touching at the end of the day is an interesting change from the typical HEA romance stories. The fact that My Will isn't a romance at all is also something I'd like to try again in the future. I adore romance, like I said, I'm a big softie, but trying a different avenue is something I feel all authors should take a crack at, if only once.

For writers: What's the most challenging piece you've ever written? Something completely outside of the norm for you, but still something enjoyable? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks once again for allowing me to stop by!

Blurb: Cynthia felt the time had come to tell the young boy the truth of his name, and of the fateful day of his birth. Time to tell the story of her beloved Olivia, a beautiful and vibrant woman full of love and happiness. Friend, lover, wife, savior - she would have been a great mother had she survived. So, Cynthia pulls her little boy onto her lap and recalls the day ten years ago; of Cynthia's pain, Olivia's parting words, and a baby's powerful will to live despite his small and frail body. Today, the boy will learn why Mother's Day means so much to Cynthia.

A short story from Untreed Reads's Nibs literary line.

Excerpt: “Come here, I have a story for you.” Smiling, Cynthia motioned for her son to join her on the couch. Her arm wrapped around his little shoulders as she pulled him closer, planting a kiss on his forehead. Wide hazel eyes—so much like hers—blinked up with childlike curiosity, a smile perking up the corners of his lips.

Today Cynthia would finally tell her son about his mother and her wife, Olivia. Cynthia’s chocolate-colored eyes closed briefly, recalling soft throaty laughter and gentle touches. Even now, if she delved deep enough into her memories, she could smell Olivia’s spicy scent of cinnamon and cloves. As Cynthia recalled those beautiful years, she threaded her thick fingers through her child’s golden brown curls. The ten-year-old leaned against her while his little arms moved around her full middle in a comforting hug. Neither exchanged words, but a comfortable silence filled the room. The boy snuggled closer as if he sensed her melancholy and wanted to provide comfort.

So much like Olivia. All the more reason to love him with all of her being.

* * *

The hospital room quickly became flooded with organized chaos. Flashes of white, pale green and blue danced across Cynthia’s vision. The world moved in slow motion for Cynthia, and had ever since Olivia smiled her smile, the one that said it’s going to be all right.

Olivia only smiled like that when she lied.

“Ma’am. Ma’am, we’re going to have to ask you to leave the room now. Ma’am?”

The nurse’s words fell on deaf ears. All Cynthia could focus on was Olivia, her beautiful girl who had taken her from Hell and showed her Heaven. She was the same woman who had been there when Cynthia had finally come out and who had remained to guide her to bed when she had finally confessed her feelings.

They had known the risks when Olivia first brought up having a baby. Cynthia had protested the idea from the start, due to her love’s heart condition. “The risks aren’t high,” the doctors had said “but we still have to consider her a high-risk pregnancy. As long as Olivia takes care of herself, she should be fine.”

Liars. She’s dying. She’s dying and I can’t…oh God, Olivia don’t leave me, please! Don’t leave me like this!

Something gripped her arm. A hand. “Ma’am, please. We’re going to have to ask you to leave. The doctors need to…”

Cynthia choked back a sob as she heard the heart monitor beep erratically. Her hand flew to her mouth and bile rose up in her throat. The doctors said Olivia would be fine, so why were things going so horribly wrong? Did the doctors lie to them about Olivia’s health and chances of a successful pregnancy? If they did, she would sue every last one of them if Olivia died.

No, she’s not going to die. She’s not going to leave me. I need her. I love her. It should be me on that bed!

What a powerful excerpt to the story. I have yet to write a difficult one professionally but I did a fanfic one that was interesting. It turned out to be a bittersweet ending but it's a favorite amongst the people who've read the story so I guess its all good.

You're right, as long as it brings out the positive, thats all that matters!

TY Catriana and of course, much more success. Make sure you comment readers to win a copy of Destined.

Join us tomorrow where I'll talk about GLBT rights and then we'll finish up this awesome event with Karenna Colcroft!

Thanks everyone for the support as always!

Taboo Tens: Day Eighteen Blak Rayne

Good morning friends!

Welcome to Taboo Tens day Eighteen.

I'm proud to welcome one of my bestie's to Michael's, Blak Rayne. She's one of the few authors I've met online that I can call a true friend.

Her Devotion series is one of the best gay fiction books I've read and I'm excited about part three. Also, she co writes with me at IRM as well as regular posts at Red Lipstick Journals.

Please give this great talent your undivided attention as she does a guest post relating to her new series, Master of Illusion.

Interview With A Slave

By: Blak Rayne

“I’ve interviewed Mr. Whelan before. It’s no big deal.” Angie’s my assistant and there are times when she’s downright annoying. She fiddled with the microphone at my chest and I slapped her hand away. “Stop! Didn’t you hear me?” I repeatedly tapped her fingers until she finally stood back with the expression of a doting mother. “Honestly, you are ridiculous.”
“It’s my job. You’re quite bitchy today.”
Angie smoothed out my lapels to make sure I looked my best.
 “Nerves, I guess.”
“But you just said it’s no big deal, you’ve interviewed the man before.”
“I did. It was for that Cocktails Magazine article.”
“I remember. So, what’s the problem?”
“The slave…” My voiced trailed off to a peep.
The bounty hunter was seated along with the slave at the table, and the technician was conducting a sound check for their microphones.
“What was that?” asked Angie.
“The slave is here.” I quickly turned the other direction, cleared my throat and examined the papers quivering in my hand.
Angie peeked over my shoulder. “He is.” She looked at me whispering, “Why are you so pale?”
“The last time I interviewed Mr. Whelan I had to run home and take a cold shower.” The words cut through my teeth, “How can I interview a guy when my nipples are hard and his lover is dissecting me!”
“You silly woman!” Angie laughed, covering her mouth then playfully nudged my arm. “Just picture him in his underwear. I’ve heard that helps.”
“If I pictured that man doing anything partly naked, I’m liable to have an orgasm during the show.”
“Oh not Mr. Whelan! I meant the slave–since you’re not attracted to him.”
“Great advice.” I glared, but my attention soon reverted when the director shouted for everyone to take his or her place. The show was about to begin. Mr. Whelan smiled as I pulled the chair in tight to the table across from him.
“Good evening, doll.”
That crooked smirk bent his lips and I caught myself staring. I wish he’d kiss me, just once. “Good evening Mr. Whelan, it’s so nice to see you again.” We shook hands then I greeted the slave. “Mr. Draconius, it’s a pleasure.”
“Please call me, Vale.”
His voice rode at a moderately low decibel and not near as deep as the bounty hunters.
“Sure, Vale then.” I straightened my posture.
The director gave the signal. The feed would go live in seconds.
“Good evening, this is Cindy Hughes, and welcome to eBooks Live. Today I have two very special guests, Mr. Whelan and Mr. Draconius–main characters of the newly released ebook Master of Illusion by author, Blak Rayne. Thank you both for joining me. To bring our audience up to speed, Mr. Whelan did a guest spot back in March and though he is here today, his presence is more for support. The real man of the hour is our other guest, Mr. Vale Draconius.” I glanced over my notes then continued. “Personal history really helps create interest, Vale. Can you give our listeners a brief rundown of who you are and what it is you do?”
“I’m a slave, but my life didn’t start off that way…”
He took a moment, seemingly to gather his thoughts.
“How did it start?” I asked.
“I was born in the Euro Bloc to teenage parents. We were very poor and struggled to live…”
Evidently the slave was nervous because he focused on the bounty hunter, refusing to look at me.
“Did you have any sisters or brothers?”
“Not that I remember. When I turned fourteen, my parents sold me to a slave marketer and I lived with him until I was shipped to the NAC Bloc. They needed the money.”
“Excuse me…” This tidbit of information was slightly horrific and I’m positive it came out in my voice. “You were sold into slavery–is that correct?”
“Yes doll,” the bounty hunter interjected. “In our world slavery is commonplace.”
“I see, but what constitutes a slave?”
“The colour of my hair,” answered Vale.
“That is weird. Please continue with your story, Vale.”
“The marketer was much older and a tattoo artist. People paid him to paint their bodies. His interest in me was personal from the start…” The slave paused to rub his hands. “He said, I was too beautiful to sell…so I stayed with him for six months.
“You mean he took a sexual interest.”
“He was my first partner, yes. He taught me many things…how to dance and he tattooed my spine. He said, I possessed the eyes of a dragon and the tattoo was a gift because he loved me.”
It was impromptu, but I wanted to see that tattoo. “Do you mind showing me? Unless you don’t feel comfortable Vale, that’s fine.”
The bounty hunter gave the go-ahead. The slave stood up, grabbed either side of his t-shirt and lifted it to reveal a stunning tattoo of a dragon with purple eyes. Okay, I was impressed. The image was detailed, and ran, the length of his back from hairline to tailbone.
“That is beautiful. Thank you. After living with this man, where did you go?”
“I was sold to a master in the NAC Bloc. I was under contract to him for fourteen years. Then the abuse became too much to live with, and I escaped.”
“And I assume this was when you met, Mr. Whelan?”
He didn’t answer immediately and passed the bounty hunter a shy smile. The affection between the two men was strong though subtle, and I was intrigued.
“Vale’s master hired me to find him. The job was routine, but the situation wasn’t.” Sloan chewed and the scent of spearmint wafted through the air.
“Very interesting…” My mind wandered briefly then I snapped back. It was the bounty hunter. He distracted me. “I’d like to take a few moments to discuss the book. Vale, this question is for you. How do you feel about the graphic sex?”
“I’m not crazy about it, but the author felt it was necessary to set the tone for the book.”
“The sex scenes that do involve your character are with men. Did you find this difficult to portray?” The questions did probe, but I’d pushed my luck this far.
“Not at all!” Vale quietly laughed. “I am gay–I mean, Blak wrote my character’s sexual preference that way on purpose.”
“Ahh then no problem.”
“Nope. I love men.”
I cleared my throat and glanced at the director, waiting for him to cut the show. “Excellent–and you do have good taste!” Sloan chuckled and I swear my cheeks went pink. That was a dumbass thing to say. “I’d like your personal opinion, Vale. Did you like Master of Illusion?”
“Yes, very much.” He fiddled with his braid. “The plot is well thought out and the characters are great–once you get to know us.”
“Before we say goodnight, can you tell our audience where they can find Ms. Rayne’s novels?”
“Master of Illusion is published with eXtasy Books and it was out June fifteenth…” He hesitated then asked Sloan to verify. “Did I give her the right date?”
“Yeah babe, June fifteenth.”
“Well, thank you so much for joining us today, Mr. Draconius and Mr. Whelan. And, thank you to everyone for listening. This is Cindy Hughes, from eBooks Live, saying goodnight!”

Excerpt
“All right, since I’ve screwed up royally, let’s start from the beginning. I’ll need all the information I can gather to save my hide—if I end up in court. How old are you?”
Vale followed him into the kitchen. “Twenty-eight.”
Sloan paused before pouring himself a cup of coffee. “Shit…” he mumbled, then without looking, held out a second mug of the steaming black liquid. “Come on, take it.”
“Thank you.” Vale held the mug in both hands blowing on it.
“You’re pretty young.” Sloan took a sip of the coffee, then collapsed in an armchair on the other side of the living room. “Too young to be hanging around me.”
“I’m not that young.” Vale sat on the ottoman across from him. “How old are you?”
Sloan didn’t want to frighten the guy off, he’d grown accustomed to having him around, but at the end of the day there was no use in lying, so he was blunt. “I just turned thirty-seven and I’m considered a dinosaur in this business.” He smirked, glancing in the slave’s direction. “I figure once I get you home, I’m done—you know, retired. There are lots of younger more able bodied guys, who are in far less pain than me, that are willing to do my job and charge less.”

* * * *

Vale carefully shifted closer—as close as he dared. His heart was banging out of control and he couldn’t stop staring. In spite of what others said, the hunter was extremely good-looking in his own way. Vale didn’t fully understand the attraction, but he couldn’t seem to refute it either. He’d never felt this way about anyone. He wanted them to make love. “You aren’t old, you’re unbelievable.”

* * * *

“Flattery. Nice try.” Sloan wore a crooked smile at first, then frowned as the slave knelt between his legs and put a hand on his stomach. His dark eyes were dead and they switched their focus to Vale’s violet ones. The slave brought him to a craving he was finding increasingly difficult to ignore, his lips were supple and tenderly youthful, his features exquisite. Sloan wanted that golden hair to shower his naked flesh and he pictured Vale sucking his cock.
The slave cautiously pulled Sloan’s shirt loose from under the waistline of his jeans. His slender fingers rippled over the hunter’s washboard abs underneath. The young man bent forward, lifted the shirt and planted a few gentle kisses. His breathing was hot and felt good against Sloan’s skin—too good, he was afraid of what he’d do if the kissing didn’t stop. He clamped a very large and powerful hand over the slave’s wrist and flipped him out onto the floor, snarling, “Don’t you ever touch me again!”

Blurb:

A long-term friendship between swordsman Slade Igerman and sniper Reeve Taylor turns intimate. Slade, a high-paid leader in the Special Forces, has difficulty dealing with people in general and has never had any luck maintaining a serious relationship. He’s an outwardly cold and withdrawn man. Reeve is the complete opposite, a social butterfly, a very outspoken and sarcastic individual, someone who seeks to enjoy everything life has to offer.

After a year together, they have created what appears to be a lasting bond and are seemingly happy. And for the first time in his life, Slade has successfully kept the interest of one man. He’s in love and can’t wait to see what the future brings. But just when he thinks things couldn’t get any better, Reeve is called away by duty.

When the sniper returns, he finds his lover to be a very changed man and their relationship on the verge of collapse. Reeve can sense it, something has happened in his absence and Slade is keeping a secret. Whether it’s love or a bruised ego, he refuses to give up until he gets an answer. But when he does get the answer, it brings a host of personal demons to the surface. Forced to face an uncertain future, Reeve wonders if love will be enough to conquer the demons and save their relationship?

Excerpt:

Suddenly, a back section of the structure exploded and the beams began to give way around them, creaking and groaning from the strain of the floors weight above, shafts of flaming wood, concrete and steel rumbled, and came falling down in a kaleidoscope of confusion. Reeve didn't remember much after that except when he came too, he'd been flattened by the tremendous final blow of the ammunition stores. He stared at Slade who was laughing his bag off. He had a decent sense of humour, but whatever the cadet leader found so damned amusing with nearly getting killed, eluded him.

The swordsman groaned, holding his ribs and rolled over shifting toward Reeve. "That was close, eh?"

Dumbfounded Reeve sighed. His ears were ringing. "Yeah. Too close."

Slade laughed then winked at him. "Don't you just love it when in the heat of the battle, the adrenaline starts pumping and your dick gets so hard you'd fuck anything?"

The comment was far from amusing and the timing questionable. Reeve went multiple shades of yellow. "Bastard!" He now realized Slade had purposely let him sit there, sweating when he knew all along there was an escape route. "You're sick, blade boy--really friggin' sick! I nearly shit my pants! That's not funny at all!" He remembered he'd said the same thing once when they were battling a holographic bear in the training fields outside the Zone and almost bit the dust then.

The swordsman quickly rolled Reeve over onto his back. Then forced himself on top the large man, smothering him with kisses. "How about I bang you for awhile, cowboy? My dick is rock hard." Slade squeezed his crotch. "What about yours?"

Reeve clawed at his jeans, he couldn't get them off fast enough. "Yeah, do me, Slade--I can't wait!"

This is the second in my featured author series and I am pleased to showcase not only a fabulous author but a good friend. Blak Rayne was one of the first writers to reach out to me immediately. She did my first Yahoo chat with me last year and has been quite encouraging to me as a new writer.

Blak is also a top shelf author. Her series, Devotion is everything you could want in a book. Romance, action, hot sex, passion, and humor. While reading it I was able to visualize the characters, feel their pain and laugh along with them through hilarious moments.

I truly look forward to reading more of Blak's work in the near feature since she is starting a new series.

Here are a few questions I asked her regarding her books.

MM: When creating the characters Slade and Reeve, did you have someone in particular in mind?

Blak: Not really, Reeve's my fantasy cowboy. I'm positive scads of women out there dream about their own cowboy. He's big, sexy and powerful, just the way I thought he should be. In some respects the perfect seme, but not quite. Underneath he's kind and very affectionate. Slade on the other hand leans more towards average - attractive but not quite the powerhouse of his lover. Slade is a representative of my insecure side - the introverted and unsociable individual. But I still love him too because he can think with his head when things go wrong, where Reeve will at times allow his emotions to control his judgment.

MM: No spoilers, but there are some sensitive subject matters in your book that you deal with perfectly. Do you think that it's important for authors to add that dose of cruel reality to a story?

Blak: If you're looking for total fantasy, I hate to say it, but you'll have to look elsewhere. Yes I think it's important for authors to add reality to their stories whether it's cruel or not. For myself, I want my readers to relate, to feel for my characters - to become immersed and to sympathize, to cry, cheer and hate. Emotions are powerful and can make the difference between someone loving what you write and hating it. Who wants to read fluff - and excuse the word bullshit all the time. To me realism is the cake, it adds to the plot and brings authenticity.

MM: I love the mix of humor and romance in this story, in certain parts I was laughing at what I read. Is that something you look for in the books you read?

Blak: Can I be completely honest here? No. Not generally. It isn't something I specifically hunt for in a novel. But that doesn't infer I won't read it. Humour can be a nice ice breaker - you know ease the tension in a scene and add depth to a character's persona. But it depends who's writing it. I think writing anything with a comedic edge is difficult - actually one of the hardest things to pen and not every author can do it. This isn't to say I'm an expert, but it isn't as easy as it looks. Comedic dialogue is the toughest and each character's sentence has to bounce off the other without a glitch. Okay, enough ranting about that! LOL

MM: I notice that there are two parts to Devotion. Will we hear more from Slade and Reeve?

Blak: I've had a number of people ask and the answer is, yes. I actually started to write a third instalment to Devotion last year, even before the first two were published. It's almost complete. The men are older and there's a whole new set of issues for them to deal with. Without revealing too much, I can say that it's different than the first two novels as to their values and where they stand in their relationship. Their family grows, someone dies, someone gets married, there's a court case, another man enters the picture, there is a major war and I go more into the military/militant involvement. LOL That's it, now my lips are sealed!

I want to thank Blak for answering the questions. Much continued success. I'll be waiting for the rest of Devotion!
