Wind Down Wednesday

Good Morning!

So, you might've read Shar's blog post the other day about a new story she and I thought about.

It was a gay romance with a man in the military who falls in love at first sight with a young man he assisted while in Afghanistan. Upon seeing this gentleman, the officer is smitten immediately but their backgrounds and the circumstances force them apart.

Later on in the story, the guys get a second chance but the situation has changed and my protagonist isn't ready to give my secondary character what he wants.

Yep, that's all i'll say for now.

How does it relate to this song? Well, the song is In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel.

The words just spoke to me. My main character falls in love as soon as he sees this man's eyes. The words that Peter talks about embody hope and since the story takes place during modern day war, I thought it appropriate to use it. The song I believe was performed during the South African struggles with Apartheid. And even though the song is not truly a love song, it fit my characters state of mind.

I'm really excited about it. Not sure when we'll write it but I can guarantee it will be written in 2013!

Book Review: Faelon by AJ Kelton

Book Review: Faelon
AJ Kelton

Greetings readers. I recently read the book Faelon by AJ Kelton and I was super excited to do so. A book about a nephilim, a three thousand year old immortal who tries to live in modern day. Just the premise of it excited me, especially since I love stories about angels and demons. However, in my opinion, the story fell flat and because of a few of glaring errors, I can’t rate it above a 2.5.

First the positives. The author paints a beautiful picture of this angel, Faelon who’s been abused for centuries. His black wings, he’s half human, half angel and being chased by a demon called Cayman makes for an awesome story. Then there’s the other man, Jax, who’s a security guard, a historian who comes to know Faelon and once he gets over the initial shock of the black wings, seems to fall in love with him. Again, makes for a great story right? Well yes but I feel the author missed out on some great opportunities for a more enjoyable piece.

The negatives in my opinion were distractions for this book. The POV head hopping which happened way too often in the book. When the first occurred I had to go back and make sure I wasn’t seeing the wrong thing. Sort of took me out of the story. Also, I felt the characters fell short of being brilliant. In my opinion, Faelon and Jax weren’t complete. We’re beaten over the head with the fact Faelon is a sex slave, loves it rough, and seems to need this abuse to feel wanted. Since I’m not into extreme BDSM, some of the things Faelon went through troubled me. It’s not the author’s fault at all that it’s not my cuppa. However, my major problem was the character Jax and how the seemingly mild mannered security guard became a dom, doing things to Faelon that bordered on abuse. I got that Faelon was immortal and could take a lot of it but I felt some of the actions by Jax were forced. From what the author showed, he just didn’t seem like the kind of person to be doing these things. Perhaps easing us into his transformation with a couple of light acts then a gradual change to experienced dom would’ve worked better. Again, it’s only my opinion but once I got to the middle of the book, I felt like it was torture just for the sake of shock value. I found myself skimming through the sex scenes to get to the next part.

Lastly the very confusing turn of events at the end. He unites with his former master Delgorio because he’s terrified of the Cayman and asks for help. The tension between Jax and Delgorio is definitely there and I wanted to know more about their relationship. He seemed to leave as quick as he came which was disappointing. There would’ve been another opportunity for the plot to go deeper but instead the author didn’t explore that more.

I really wanted to like this book. It had promise and an angel who begs to be loved makes for a great novel but this story’s glaring errors and forced sex made me wish for the ending. That being said, I would still like to read the sequel if there is one. I want to know more about Faelon and how he gets away from the Cayman while trying to survive in the modern world with a human lover. Hopefully the author will do build on that more in the next story. If so, I'd gladly give it a look.

2.5 stars

Blurb: Who knew that loving a Nephilim could be so dangerous.

Faelon, a 3000-year-old nephilim, fleeing a demonic master, found safety with the church. He has repaid their kindness by translating various artifacts. Father Donovan has watched as Faelon became a recluse, fearing those who would harm him.

Jax, wanting a change, moves to Salem, MA where he finds work as a churches security guard. Not believing that Faelon is a nephilim, he is forced to confront his own beliefs in the supernatural.

Can he learn to accept Faelon, and be the master he requires? Or lose the man he loves to the demons who would harm him.

Welcome Julie Lynn and MA Church - Be My Alien Promo

Good morning folks. Ah lovely day here at Michael's and I'm happy to have Julie Lynn Hayes and MA Church, two awesome authors and even more fabulous friends. I love this cover too!

There comes a time when a writer sets a fresh piece of paper in the typewriter and is faced with the age-old question – what shall I write? All right, maybe I’m dating myself a bit here, and no, I haven’t used an actual typewriter in many years. Nor would I want to. My fingers are spoiled by the light touch of the keyboard, and I never wish to go back again.
But I digress.
First question is often what genre do I wish to dabble in today? I admit that science fiction has not been my first choice when deciding which genre to write in. Granted, I do enjoy science fiction and, at one time, read a lot of it. But it was a different field back then, with writers like Asimov, Clarke, Henlein, Bradbury... I knew I didn’t have the science background to even begin to attempt the things they did. Science fiction today is just not the same as it was then. In fact, I didn’t read it for a long time.
A long time ago, I did begin a sci fi story, which is now long lost in my notes somewhere. It had to do with a time when people entertained themselves by plugging into their TV’s, attaching themselves through electronics in such a way that they could participate in the story. HOPAVI, I called it, short for home participation video. Guess it wasn’t that story’s time.
I began writing a sci fi story with my friend, author Sui Lynn, and we’ve posted snippets of it on our blogs, and we really love it, but real life has derailed that story, at least for now.
In the meantime, my friend and author, M.A. Church and I decided to write something together. What do you want to write, she asked. As it so happened, I had the privilege of editing two of her novels, Nighttime Wishes and Nighttime Dreams, and also The Harvest, which she has subbed and is waiting to hear about. All three novels deal with the romance between an alien and a human, and I am here to tell you these stories are hot, hot, hot! So much so that when she said what do you want to write, I knew the answer. I wanted to write about an alien too. An alien/human romance of our own.
As is usual in collaborations, each author creates a main character, although both should be capable of writing for each of them. Thus Michelle created Reed Hatcher, and I got to make up the alien, whose name is Taz. The result of this first collaboration is Be My Alien, which we subbed to Dreamspinner and which they accepted, and which published May 8th.
Taz is from the planet of Trygos, from somewhere far far away. He comes to Earth on a date with another alien, Vorlod, and is excited about it. It seems that to the other inhabitants of the universe, Earth is not much of a destination, so it’s like going on a cheap date. But Taz is happy, and they’re up in the Empire State Building together when Taz figures out Vorlod’s real reason for being there... when Vorlod dumps him for another alien.
Reed Hatcher is a successful businessman without a love life. He expends all his energies into his shop, A Touch of Class, which specializes in upscale men’s clothing, as well as what is in the naughty backroom. It’s two days until Valentine’s Day, and Reed is about to close up shop and go home to his lonely apartment when a late night call from a good client changes everything, and he agrees to make a last minute delivery to the Empire State Building.
There, Taz falls into Reed’s arms—literally. What happens?  ‘Fraid you’ll have to read the book to find out!
Michelle and I are hard at work on book two of what will probably be a three book series. I have to tell you, it’s been great fun writing with her, and I fully intend to inveigle her into more books after these. With or without aliens? Who knows! Whatever they will be, they will be fun.
What does it take to write about aliens? You are only limited by your imagination. I got to create our alien, since Michelle had two other series and I never did, so I came up with Taz, who has some distinctively feline features. I know, big shock, right?
But more than just what he looks like, I needed a background, and knowledge of his home world, so that means worldbuilding, which I happen to enjoy. And even if all of the details are not revealed in the books, at least they are there to draw on, a firm foundation for making him believable.
If you want to create an alien of our own, let’s assume for the sake of argument, that he is some sort of humanoid. This makes it easier for the audience to see and relate to him. If there are differences, such as the “dreadlocks/tentacles”  of Michelle’s alien in the Nighttime series, then let us see them, and tell us what sets them apart. Or, in Taz’s case, it’s his stripes... and his tail.
Like any other character, your alien needs a background, family, friends, etc. A job or something he does to spend his time while waiting for his human/true love to appear.
See? Basically, underneath the differences are the similarities. The alien is still a man, and he still has dreams, wishes, desires and hopes, among them to love and be loved.
The rest is window dressing and a lot of fun.
So go on, build yourself an alien of your own, and see what I mean!
* * * *

Blurb:  Reed Hatcher’s life is work, work, work. He owns a successful men’s boutique in New York City, but a love life is out of the question—for many reasons. It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and business is brisk. On an unexpected visit to the Empire State Building, a sexy man literally falls into Reed’s lap. His name is Taz and he’s just been dumped by his date. One look and Reed is hooked. He offers to buy Taz some coffee and they leave together.
Reed is attracted to Taz and takes him home to his apartment. But Reed discovers there’s more to Taz than he realized—especially when Taz’s stripes begin to show. And he has a tail? Turns out Taz is not quite like Reed. In fact, he comes from another planet, far far away, and he’s only on Earth for a vacation.
Reed never believed in aliens before, but he’s facing one now, and dear God, what is he going to do? Just when he decides he loves Taz and together they can handle anything, the alien that dumped Taz decides he wants him back and steals him away.
Can Reed live with the memory of what he almost had, and the love he found and lost? How can he ever face the moonlit skies again?

Excerpt:  “Are you okay? Hello?”
Reed dragged his mind away from those sexy green eyes. “Ah, huh? What?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall on top of you like that. You see, it was like this. I was pushed, and you just happened to be there and….” The stranger grinned at Reed. “And down we went.”
Reed shifted under the body lying so contentedly on top of him. Hell’s bells, the guy fit against him perfectly. From the feel of things, they were both close to the same height. Which also meant certain things were… aligned. “Oh yeah, I’m okay. Banged my head a little, but I’m fine.”
The stranger bit his bottom lip, his teeth worrying the tender skin. Reed debated slamming his head against the floor a few more times in the hopes of rattling his brain back to normal as the stranger rolled off him.
“I really am sorry.”
“No harm done.” Reed sat up and looked at the guy once again. Well, not much harm, anyway. His libido just had to pick now to perk up, didn’t it? But damn, this guy was sexy. Reed struggled to his feet and held his hand out to the man still on the floor, looking up at him. The guy took his hand and let Reed pull him up. “Name’s Reed. Are you okay?”
“Hi, Reed!” The guy hopped to his feet in a single, lithe movement, as if it was the most….world. “My name is Taz. Nice to meet you, and yes, I am.”
For a moment there was a flash in the guy’s eyes that belied his statement. “Good, that’s good. Glad to hear it. Well, I guess I’d better be going—”
A forlorn expression crossed Taz’s face and his pretty eyes clouded. “Oh.”
Reed hesitated. There was something about the guy that pulled at him. When was the last time he’d felt that pull? Way too long ago. Taz was cute, sure. But there was this look of hurt. Dammit, Taz just looked so lost. Insane as it was, he wanted to make it all better.

And now, a little information on the authors of Be My Alien.
Author bio:
M.A. Church
M.A. Church lives in the southern United States and spent many years in the elementary education sector. She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have two children. Her hobbies are gardening, walking, attending flea markets, watching professional football, racing, and spending time with her family on the lake.
But her most beloved hobby is reading. From an early age, she can remember hunting for books at the library. Later nonhuman and science fiction genres captured her attention and drew her into the worlds the authors had created. But always at the back of her mind was the thought that one day, when the kids were older and she had more time, she would write a book.
By sheer chance she stumbled across a gay male romance story on the web and was hooked. A new world opened up and she fell in love. Thus the journey started. When not writing or researching, she enjoys reading the latest erotic and mainstream romance novels.

Wednesday Briefs #23

Greetings readers.

Here I am with another episode of Wednesday Briefs.

Lately, I've been writing a lot of paranormal but I finally take a break with the last two briefs.

Here again is my characters Kaitlin and Lacey from my WIP Kat and Lacey which I hope to be writing in a month or so!

Prompt – Are you Crazy, you could have… (Kat and Lacey M/M)

Kaitlin led Lacey into his apartment with his bag of leftovers in hand, clutching it tightly. Just what does Lacey have to say? His eyes darted and shoulders tensed, Kaitlin Harris was scared to death to hear what his potential man had to tell him. What kind of secret was he holding on to? Kaitlin was sure it wasn’t anything as horrific as what he’d been through. That almost made him want to commit suicide but knowing he had a daughter to take care of, it stopped him from finishing the job.

“Come on, man have a seat. Sounds like Shanna’s gone for the night…again…” he sighed. He hated when she left Larita in the apartment alone once she fell asleep. “Let me go check on her to make sure she’s okay.”

Lacey shook his head. “Damnit man, I don’t know why you don’t call DCFS on that girl. I know she’s like family but…”

“Save it, Lacey,” he snapped again and clicked his teeth knowing he hurt the man’s feelings once more. “Fuck, I’m…”

“Go check on your kid, man.” Lacey pushed passed him and went to the bathroom, slamming the door hard and making Kat jolt.

Damn.

Disgusted by his and Lacey’s actions, Kat stomped to his daughter’s room and opened the door quietly so he wouldn’t wake her up. When he noticed her sleeping soundly, he tiptoed to the miniature bed and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. The moment he saw Larita’s face, all the tension and anger in him withered away. The more he looked at her, the more she favored DeMario instead of Shanna. Good thing too. He wanted to be reminded of his lover, the baby’s father he loved more than anything.

“Damn, DeMario. She looks more like you with each passing day.” Kat slowly stroked the girl’s back and patted her, remembering when Shanna was about to deliver. She and Larita almost didn’t make it but by the grace of God, they we’re saved.

Too bad, DeMario wasn’t around to see his daughter grow up.

“Jesus, Mario…” Kat rubbed the top of his scalp and dragged his hand to the back of his neck. “Listen man. I know you may not like it but, I gotta move on, man. I can’t keep living this straight boy lie, taking care of your baby momma and the baby. Tired of being lonely man. I gotta take a chance with Lacey. He's good people.” Kat nibbled on his bottom lip and closed his eyes tightly, remembering that awful day.

Immediately, the joy of seeing Larita’s lovely angelic expression dissipated and his mind replayed the worst time in his life as if on a DVD.

“No, damn…” Kat held himself tightly and the tears started to flow. He gulped hard and his heart started to race. “I… shi… no DeMario, you bastard… are you crazy, you could have been killed. And…” Kat sniffed and shook his head in disbelief… and you were, you stupid asshole!”
* * * *
It was a dark and stormy night with the rain coming down in buckets. Kat and DeMario quickly ran across the street, away from their chasers who seemed to have a bone to pick with DeMario and desired to settle the score. Their black clothes were soaked from head to toe after running almost three blocks when they stepped into a club just to have a beer.
Demario sucked in two breaths and wiped his forehead. “Think we lost them, dude.”
“Man, what did you do all those years ago,” Kat asked, huffing and trying to catch his breath.

DeMario laughed heartily and wrapped his arms around Kat. “Man, I played a practical joke on one of them in high school. They’ve never forgotten, I guess.”

Kat cocked and eyebrow while he shrugged away. No question even out in the rain, he wouldn’t want to be caught hugging his lover, especially on the south side of Chicago where faggots were as good as dead if they showed themselves. “What kind of joke?” Kat was afraid to hear it but DeMario was always the court jester in all their classes so he wasn’t surprised.

“Man, back in the day, I put a whoopee cushion on the football team captain’s seat,” he laughed.

“No you didn’t, jerk off!” Kat shoved him hard to the ground until DeMario fell over in a heap. While he laughed, he tripped Kat, causing him to fall right next to him on the sidewalk. “You ass, that’s not why they’re chasing us right now. What the hell did you do, De?”

DeMario stopped laughing a little and cleared his throat. “Okay, okay. I put a couple of firecrackers by his car that sounded like gunshots. When he started his engine, I ignited them and they went off. Man it was hilarious!”

“Fuck DeMario, you crazy, you know? You could’ve gotten hurt or killed yourself, man. Playing around with that kind of shit when you don’t know much about firecrackers. And that shits illegal here in Illinois.”

“Yeah yeah.” DeMario got up and grabbed Kaitlin’s hand. “Let’s go home, babe. It’s getting late and um… before we go our separate ways, I wanna make sweet love to you.”

Kat nodded and smiled sweetly at his man. When DeMario tried to kiss him, he backed away and shrugged, “Not now, De. Wait until we get out the streets.”

“Damn you drive a hard bargain. Alright then…” DeMario bowed his head once and turned around. The moment he did, he was tackled from behind by someone and driven to the ground.

“No!” Kat was grabbed by another man. He yelled loudly and screamed, watching in horror as two masked men beat Demario savagely and kicked him while he was still down. Kat grit his teeth and struggled against the tight grips of this gorilla’s hold but he could do nothing else but cry after each blow they’d given his lover. “No! God, no…leave him alone!”

“Shut up, you faggot!” The voice sounded familiar but before Kat could say or do anything more, he felt a blow to the back of his head and everything went black.

* * * *

Kat dropped to his knees and covered his face with his hands. He continued to cry and rock forward as he recalled his lover being beaten to death mercilessly by two men with a lead pole and baseball bat. They left both of them to die and never were found or charged for the crimes. Violently, he shuddered and clenched his fists tightly. “Oh God, DeMario… I swear to God if I ever cross paths with them again…”

“You’ll do what, Kat?” Lacey stepped in the room with a bottle of water in his hand for himself and Kat.

“I’ll kill them, Lacey. They got away with it once, but Lord help me they won’t get away again.” Kat struggled to get up but when he did, he scampered out the room away from Lacey, not taking the drink offered to him. He could’ve used it but right now, he was so upset about reliving the horrible nightmare, he might’ve vomited anything he attempted to eat or drink.

“Kat, Kat… come here.” Lacey closed the door to Larita’s room and hurried to Kat’s side. He placed the water on the side table. “Hey man.” Lacey bear hugged him and stroked the back of his neck to calm Kat.

“Oh God, Lacey! I can’t do this! I just…” Kat’s face full of moisture, he accepted the hug and reciprocated it but used Lacey’s back as his own punching bag. Lacey knew he was strong and could take it better than anyone. After all, Lacey was a bodyguard and a master in Taekwondo.

“Shhh…easy man, easy. Yeah you can, man. He’d want you to stand up for yourself but you can’t make those kind of threats, Kat. You’re not prepared to fight anyone.”

Kat leaned on Lacey’s shoulder and stopped jabbing him momentarily. Right now, the strongest emotion was his anger but arousal was a close second. How could he resist Lacey being this close, comforting him, dressed so well in his fitted black slacks and shirt. He looked so handsome and damn if Kat didn’t want to take him to bed right now to make love until the wee hours of the morning.

Instead of acting on that, Kat only bowed once and peered into Lacey’s wild brown eyes. “I’m prepared, Lacey. I got a gun in my name so the next motha…”

Lacey’s brows furrowed. “Whoa, whoa, man… hold up. You got a gun? Are you crazy?”

“Yeah man…” he sniffed and wiped his nose and eyes with the back of his sleeve. “I’m not playing no games, Lacey. “If anyone steps to me, I promise you, they will be good as dead when I pop their ass.”

Seemingly stunned by Kat’s declaration, “Lacey stepped back, put his hands out in front of him, and shook his head. “Kat, that ain’t no way to solve a dispute.”

“Lacey, this ain’t a dispute anymore, okay? This was my life, destroyed in minutes. This was my man, getting beat to death, and these fucks not getting caught. If they or anyone else tries to touch me or my daughter, it’s over, man.”

“And how will that bring him back, Kat? Will that solve anything?” Lacey crossed his arms over his strong chest.

“No, but I’ll feel a hell of a lot better when I get my revenge!” Kat wrinkled his lips into a sly smile.

“And you’ll get caught, most likely get twenty or more in prison. You’ll be almost in the same predicament as DeMario. Not able to see your daughter grow up. Do you really want to take that chance for some random act of violence?”

“It’s not random, Lacey. This is for DeMario, Larita, and hell, for Shanna too as well as me. Because of their foolishness, my daughter doesn’t have her father! They gotta pay for that!”

“Only three men assaulted you guys that night, Kat. No one else. You can’t fault everyone.”

“Yeah I can, Lacey. This is society’s fault for teaching people that gay or bisexual men don’t matter. Telling them it’s okay to beat someone to death because they’re gay. I’m mad at the world, Lacey and goddamnit so help me, I’m gonna take my anger out on anyone who gives me shit!”

Monday Mornin' Muse

Good morning

Once again, I'm using the beautiful Umid is my muse in a story

Right now, he's my twin vampires in the short I'm working on for reader Judie S called
Mon Frere, My True Love.

I don't have a blurb yet but it's the story of a set of vampire twins, very different from one another who have a very special bond. Neither one knows about their feelings for one another but after almost three hundred years of avoiding the taboo, the two of them want to take their relationship to another level.

Ryland and Ryder Durand's story will be added to the Nola series as a paranormal special later on.

Here's a sneak peek.

Unedited excerpt

“Where is your lovely brother?” Ryder’s female companion leaned across the bar and traced her long red fingernails on the side of Ryder’s face.

Although busy with the numbers from the bar’s earnings for the month, he stopped a moment to savor the soft touch of this woman he’d been courting for the past few weeks. At times, he’d thought about making her the one he’d turn and keep for himself to share with Ryland but because Ryland wasn’t the least bit attracted to women, he refrained. “He’s at home as usual, Kyla.” Ryder set his pencil down and ran his own fingers over the cocoa brown flesh underneath her chin. He swallowed hard as he affixed his gaze upon the pulse in her neck, beating quickly in unison with her heart. It kept calling him to bite her right then and there. Ryland ignored the temptation and moved in closer to her, curling Kyla’s black coiled strands around his free hand while the other made a small mark on her throat to remind him exactly where he wanted to feed on her later on. “Tell me, what fascinates you about my brother, hmm, mon cherie? I am jealous over your feelings for him.”

In response to his question, Kyla laughed heartily and licked her full lips. She moved closer and stood up, revealing more of her chocolate rounded body to Ryder.  Clothed in a low cut and short black dress the accentuated every curve on her torso, Ryder fought with himself not to take her in the back and pleasure her until club’s opening. Instead, he looked away a moment to collect himself even as she pushed herself into him. Her bosom stared him in the face. “Don’t be, mon chere. I think the shyness is what attracts me to him, the mysteriousness,” she pronounced in her southern drawl. “Not only that, he’s talented, Ryder. I assume you’ve read his work.”

Ryder nodded his head in agreement. “Yes of course. My brother has a lot of talent with the proverbial pen and quite a way with words, more so than me,” he chuckled. “He wrote the sign above the back entrance as well. Many have told me how welcoming that paragraph is.” Ryder grinned at himself when he thought of that saying above the door. Venez, venez tous ceux dont les âmes ont été opprimés et battu. Vous êtes toujours les bienvenus ici dans l'obscurité. (Come one, come all whose souls have been downtrodden and trounced. You are always welcome here in the darkness.) Ryland was indeed a wordsmith and had gained quite a following with his stories but he hated the spotlight unlike Ryder who lived for it. “I’m proud of what he has accomplished but at times, you know, we have a rivalry. He doesn’t relish in it but I do.”

Kyla clicked her teeth. “Of course you do, lover.” Lightly, she pecked him on the head and smoothed the stray black strands on his scalp. “Ryder is a perfect name for the wilder soul as yourself Mr. Durand. Don’t be envious of him. You are a talent in your own right but I won’t lie to you and tell you I’m not interested in your brother.”

You wouldn’t be the only one.

You Gotta Read THAT

Only one book since the crew was on vacation having fun in NOLA.

Let me say, I really enjoy this book by Claire Gray. Well written, the characters were lovely, and the plot was perfect. Not a lot wrong with it other than the fact the characters didn't have too much sex.

Yes, I said it, not enough sex. BL is rubbing off on me. *chuckles*

All in all a great book. A must read vampire story which I fully enjoyed. I'm looking forward to reading more of Claire's work! This read definitely has put me in the right mindset to write my next vampire piece.

Wow Wednesday REVISIT

Greetings!

Haven't done the WOW in a while.

How about my two muses from the next story to come out in the Only That Night Antho in a couple of days?

It's Andrei and Jason who play Valios and Calisto in Demon Be Mine.

Here's a small snippet...

Shrouded by darkness and kneeling in a deserted alley below, Calisto retched repeatedly after taking pleasure in too much of the earthly libations he was given. Despite his perfections which had dwindled since he was kicked out the heavens, Calisto could not handle the amounts nor the mixes of liquors he’d partaken this evening and now he was paying the price, much like any normal human would when consuming too much.
“Ugh…I…” he wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve, attempting not to hurl once again. The bile settled in his stomach, causing him much discomfort in his abdomen and his head spun as if he’d been on a ride that would not cease. “God…you…” Calisto held onto his midsection, cursing his maker with every sharp tinge. “I’ll…I shall become…great once again…” In seconds, his wings disappeared, melding in with his skin underneath the large overcoat. The feelings subsided slightly, giving Calisto little relief as the change from higher angel to fallen servant began. Calisto breathed a deep sigh and curled up in the fetal position, leaning against the cold wall. His eyes widened and a stray tear fell from his eyelid. “Thank you for having mercy on me…somewhat. I suppose the archangel takes great pleasure in my demise but…” Calisto moistened his chapped lips and swallowed hard, still fighting the boiling liquid in his stomach. “As I said, I shall rise again. Not as one of yours but perhaps one of his?”
The moment he finished his statement, the white clouds in the dark night sky turned grey, and the air quickly transformed from modestly cold to bitterly chilly. Small raindrops fell from up above, pelting the ground and creating puddles on the pavement.
Calisto flashed a sly grin and blew hot air on his cold fingertips. “You don’t like that do you? Well…” Calisto chuckled to himself and rubbed his hands together. “Too bad, my dear Creator. We have come to an impasse that cannot be solved any other way. If you wish to kill me, strike me down now but know this. In this life or the next, I shall be mighty again!” Calisto shook his fist at the sky as if he were mocking God. Knowing this kind of action could be penalized by eternal death, Calisto closed his eyes and braced himself for God’s wrath to come upon him. He wrapped his arms tightly around himself and lowered his head between his knees, teeth clenched, preparing for the swift blow the creator could have in store for him. Instead, nothing happened. Only flashes of lightning bolts above his head, causing the earth to shake slightly below him. A rumble obviously felt by human passerbys, sending them into small panic.
Surprised, Calisto slowly lifted his head and nibbled on his bottom lip. “So you are giving me another chance? May I ask for what oh great one?”
He waited for the answer to come telepathically into his mind and when he heard it, he only nodded and immediately hopped to his feet. “You really do care don’t you?”  The strength of his maker returning to him, adrenaline flowed through his veins, and all hurt was taken away in just that small span of time. “I thank you for this. You are indeed the most forgiving,” Calisto bowed his head and made the sign of the cross over his chest. “And now I shall attempt to find what is missing in my existence but I cannot do this in my current state.”
Once again, Calisto lowered his lids and breathed in deeply, transforming himself from angel to human within seconds. His body shuddered and Calisto’s muscled shoulders hunched over invoking much pain in his biceps. His chiseled jawed otherwise clean shaven face became fleshy with a full-fledged beard and mustache above his lips. The bags under his eyes doubled and the well-defined frame changed to a somewhat bulkier one. A body he was never accustomed to.
When he finished, he looked down at himself, shaking his head in disgust. A burly bear, hmm? I’ve never been attracted to men of this sort but perhaps this special someone will be.
Calisto pulled the jacket tighter around him and cleared his throat to begin his journey across town. Exactly where he didn’t know but in his heart of hearts, he was following a certain individual. A being from his past he’d always had the affection for but could never bring himself to love.
That being was the soul catcher. Valios. The one he fought in the last war between heaven and hell. This was what caused the argument between him and the Creator.
Calisto desired to have one night with one of the deadliest beings to ever roam the earth.
