Closed Doors Means New Beginnings

Greetings readers. Let’s take a trip back in time shall we? Nov 17, 2010, to be exact. I received a contract from XOXO publishing for my short story, True Meaning of Love. Wow. I was so excited, elated, and relieved that a publisher took the chance, giving me, a new author, the chance to release a book. I had high expectations. No, not millions of copies sold or a best seller at Amazon. I only expected to make a dent in the publishing world, to get my name out there and improve as an author as time went along. And I did. I got my name out there with this book as well as A Second Chance and The Power of Muse, along with other shorts I did in their anthologies. However, authors rarely stay with one publisher throughout their writing career. They move on to other publishers or they try their hands at doing it on their own. This was no backlash against XOXO but instead, just a way to see if I could make several dents throughout the industry.

And I have with all 3 names. Lately, I’ve spent a lot of time writing under BL and Michael hasn’t really had the chance to publish with other companies. I plan on changing that now with some revisions as well as new stories I’m sending out to publishers. However, I also had the above mentioned stories in the back of my mind. I wanted to totally redo the stories, delve deeper into the characters and hopefully find a new home for them either with another publisher or publishing myself. Well, now I get that chance. Yesterday, I received a letter from the acquisitions editor that XOXO is closing its doors. Wow. In truth I’m not really shocked. I hadn’t really kept in touch with the owner and only talked with the editor a couple of times recently when I wanted these stories pulled but I suspected that things weren’t going as expected and the person in charge decided to fold.

Interestingly, I’ve seen this happen not only to XOXO but No Boundaries Press which closed its doors last year and to date hasn’t paid a lot of people their money owed, me included. At least with XOXO, she did, and for that I am grateful. And though I just said I’m not shocked, I am saddened that the company wasn’t able to go on. I wish no ill will on anybody, not even the criminal from No Boundaries but authors see this happen all the time and yeah, the backlist gets smaller. Hell, Michael’s lost four books in the last year! *smiles* But it’s an opportunity to re-work these stories and make them better. Michael and I will do the character arcs we didn’t do in 2010. We’ll plot these out and make better stories for A Second Chance and The Power of Muse. We’ll incorporate True Meaning in with the second book to make it a more complete story and we’ll move on. Me and this muse will be okay. Yeah Michael, we will. *pats the muse*

I’m excited about this new beginning for all three of these stories and look forward to diving back into the characters. Yeah, I lose 3 very awesome covers done by Amanda Struz but I thank her and XOXO for giving me a wonderful start back then and a new beginning for the near future.

Saturday Sips - The Power of Muse and Inspiration

Good morning!

How about a little from my vampire romance that was released last year from XOXO publishing? My vamp doesn't sparkle, but he does fall in love! A great Halloween read!

Blurb: No such thing as vampires!

William Chatterley is an up and coming author looking for a partner after many dead end dates. Finally, he believes he’s found a suitable mate in Andrew and they see one another.

The vampire Jude is weak from being without love in his life. When he sees the author, he desires him right away but his companion is a stumbling block.

How will he get passed it and when he does, will the mortal want to be his partner? What will he choose? Will Jude convince him to become his eternal lover?

The vampire decided to make a special dinner for his mortal companion; fish and chips along with his favourite bottle of Scotch. He decorated the entire estate with candles and played some soothing music to set a romantic mood.
William had already called a couple of hours ago, telling him he’d be late getting back to the flat so since it was dark, the immortal made the decision to feed before his lover returned. He’d done this a lot to spare William the details knowing he was out in the streets taking another life even though he was already aware. He didn’t need to know any more until Jude had to teach him on his own.
When he returned from getting his dinner, he took a quick shower and put on only a silk robe to greet William once he came in.
He hoped tonight the talk they’d have would result in what he desired the most.
“Jude?”
He smiled to himself when he heard his lover come in the door. He’d given him a spare key to let himself in. Soon, he wished William would take up permanent residence with him.
“Hello, love.” Jude pressed his lips against William’s and grabbed his buttocks in the process.
“Hiya.” The writer reciprocated the kiss.
“How’s the book doing?”
“Oh incredible! The book released last week and it’s already number one in all Amazon outlets worldwide. I’m finally beating that Mandrake character,” he beamed.
Jude laughed and slipped his coat off his shoulders while removing the black silk scarf William always wore to cover up the bite marks Jude put on his neck. He nuzzled that space and took another small nibble out of his lover’s flesh.
“Mhmm...” William sighed and groaned. He turned around to face him and covered the immortal’s mouth with his own.
“Oh William, when my love? When are you going to allow me the chance to make you mine eternally?’
He smiled wryly and his light browns eyes met Jude’s azure orbs. “I will, just...not now, Jude. I have so much to live for, you know? I wouldn’t be able to carry on in everyday society as a vampire. I mean, right now, you live in the shadows. The clients here think you’re the landlord’s long lost son or something. You have no presence outside of the flat and since that’s the way I’ll have to be too...”
“No, no, you don’t have to be. I choose to be because of what I’ve done but you my love, you’ll be able to go out and about, sell your books, and make appearances...”
“All after dark,” he finished the statement. I can’t do everything after dusk, babe. For one, my editor keeps banker’s hours unless it’s a phone call or email. What about when I’m in the company of huge amounts of people? I might have the sudden urge to have a large meal and then, when people want pictures, no flashes, yeah?”
Jude rolled his eyes and sighed. “Lovely, yes, it’s all true; you’ll have to build restraint. Think of it as being an actor in a movie or one of the characters in your books. There is a role you’ll have to play, a new responsibility you’ll have to take but wouldn’t it be all worth it?”
“Of course it would, Jude. I’m just not ready to do it yet. I’m at the height of my career, doing what I’ve always dreamed of. Becoming a successful author and actually making money from it.” William kissed Jude’s lips once again and walked further down the corridor, leaving the vampire there with a somewhat broken heart. He shook his head and placed the small jacket in the closet.
Again, he failed at convincing his companion that they should take the final step towards eternity together. What more would he have to do to make him see? He wasn’t sure. Whatever it took, he hoped it would work much sooner than later.
“Jude?” William called out to him again. “It smells go good in here, love. What did you make?”
“Fish and chips. I hope you enjoy it.” The vampire strolled back into the kitchen and planted a kiss on the side of his partner’s neck before turning away.
William caught his arm and pulled him back in. “Are you mad at me?” He raked his fingers through Jude’s blondish brown hair.
“Will it make you change your mind if I said yes?” He lightly tugged on his own erection.
“No, it won’t. Jude, I promise you, it won’t be much longer, hmm?” The author wrapped his arms around Jude’s waist and leaned into him.
Once he did, Jude lay his head on the mortal’s shoulder, nuzzling his bicep. The scents of body wash, coffee, and cloves drifted inside his nose, making him dizzy along with the smell of his lover’s flesh. That sweet smell, calling his name to bite him on that spot, drain him of all his blood right then and there before prepping him for mortal death.
“Jude, please. I assure you, I want to be with you and I understand the terms of being in a committed relationship but you did tell me you’d wait.”
“Yes, and I will continue to do that, but it gets harder and harder every day, knowing how I feel about you. It’s been such a long time since I’ve been this much in love. No one has ever made me feel this good.”
“Yes, I know, I feel the same. Just a little while longer, Jude.” Again, he crushed the vamp’s lips in an embrace and wrapped his arms around his neck.
Jude began to tremble and the sweat began to form on his brow. Tentatively, he held onto his partner, burying his head into that special space once again. Damn, this was getting more difficult by the minute to restrain himself. He’d known what he said, but now he wished he’d just done it and not said a word.
Still, wasn’t it important to have William trust him and love him? If he’d taken his life when they first met or even now, would William forgive him? He dragged his tongue over the author’s flesh and sucked his skin. He tasted a small amount of the red liquid and relished it.
“Mhmm...William, please, now...” Jude kissed him again and tangled his tongue with William’s. He grabbed his buttocks and squeezed them tightly. “While I make love to you, tonight, let me take you William. So much beauty awaits you on the other side, my love. You think you have great perception now, just wait until you can see and hear everything much clearer.”
William sighed and hugged him tightly. “I’m looking forward to it but, just allow me this time to enjoy my success.”
Jude leaned into him again. His breaths became ragged and his cock throbbed with need. That little bit of his partner’s blood made him crazed and thirsty.
No more waiting...

Monday Mornin' Read - Need based off of Power of Muse

Morning! This is Michael here with the Monday morning read! For the past 2 weeks, BL and Rawiya had given you free reads on Monday's and I've joined the party. It's sort of a round robin with the muses. *laughs*

Here is my sample based on the pic Rawiya used for FFF last Friday. This is a little spinoff with my characters from The Power of Muse and Inspiration.

Menacing sounds distracted him from his task; a voice telling him to leave this mortal alone. Who is that? Stop it! I hate you, damnit! Julius crept around the corner, his claws grinding against the red brick of the building. While his inner voice attempted to stop him from achieving his next kill, his piercing blue eyes fixated on the target of his desire. Yes that’s him! Oh I ache... I want, I must have!

But you cannot! He is untouchable, Julius, he is…

With his man? I know that. Who cares! I’ll tear him to shreds!

Julius, you promised the vamp gods you wouldn’t.

I promised them I’d uphold the sanctity of the vampire council, a be a good little bloodsucker. Surely that didn’t include letting go of the man I’ve been following for years now.

Yes it did, you fool! You gave your word you wouldn’t kill anyone else!

Julius stopped for a moment and thought to himself. Perhaps he did tell them he wouldn’t murder anyone else to get the man he really desired. The famous William Chatterley, author extraordinaire, who’d intrigued him since his first book was released over three earthly years ago. But how could he get over these raw emotions he was feeling?

Staring at the two lovers in the moonlight, the green monster started to come out. Thankfully, the jealousy began to override the subconscious, and he no longer heard the wails from his inner good telling him not to kill the other man that held his William. Yes, he said it and thought it, so it shall be.

Slowly he slipped on his gloves, he licked his upper lip and fangs, ready to feast on this poor mortal who’d been in his way for two days too long. “I must do this, oh lords of the council to satisfy my need. Forgive me, for I must go against your wishes!”

And with that, he poised himself to pounce on his prey like a wildcat about to eat a deer.

No regrets…no remorse….

Hope you enjoyed that. If you did, have a look at my book, Power of Muse from XOXO publishing

Cold winds blew through the trees and grass, making his walk through this park especially difficult. Sirens from fire engines and ambulances, cars whizzing by with music blaring out the windows all made him wince. Often Jude the Vampire hated he hadn’t been staked by now because of all his ill feelings towards modern technology.
“No such thing as quiet anymore,” he snapped. The days of taking leisurely strolls through the fields with nothing in sight were gone. Now, here in the twenty first century, everything that moved had to be noisy. Such was the reason he had to give up his small house on the outskirts of London, just because he could no longer stand living near the motorway with all the automobiles, the buses, the motorbikes. In his mind, he’d lived long past where he could tolerate these menacing things but he couldn’t ask for death, no, no… there had to be a good reason for his demise.
Jude, otherwise known as Judias Winston III, is the son of Martha and Peter. Peter was a soldier while his mother stayed behind and took care of Judias. In truth, because of their stance on religion, the couple picked the name Judias. Both weren’t firm believers in a higher being or creator; they placed their thoughts in evolution. However, because they didn’t want their child to be teased maliciously, they bestowed him something alternative to the betrayer of Jesus. People still raised eyebrows but the couple didn’t really care.
The Winston household remained a loving one throughout the young man’s childhood. His mother took great time with him, teaching him to read and write before he attended school and even afterwards, encouraging him to do something other than schoolwork like writing or drawing.
The latter he quickly took a hold of and when he completed middle school, he began to pursue his love for art. He’d paint pictures of family as well as scenes such as the country sides or any magnificent visions that roamed through his head.
When he was only twenty, he’d been teased by local boys because he didn’t like girls and became immediately depressed. While sobbing in the back of his parent’s house, he was met by a young vampire named Thaddeus who offered his long lasting love and immediately, to escape the taunts, he took it without looking back.
During his time with Thaddeus, he regained his lust for life but these days, as he approached his three hundredth year on this wretched earth, he could feel himself hating his existence once again.
Having no one to love or care for him depressed the vamp and drained his energy. After he’d left Thaddeus, his maker, due to boredom, he took another younger partner who was in a similar situation as he had been in. However, the younger lover repeated the same action as his maker had done; he ran off with another immortal without a sense of remorse. That one was so close to being the man Jude thought was his eternal lover but once he caught sight of an immortal of his own breed called Kyokia, he took off immediately.
This loss of who he thought was the one nearly killed him and now he was hanging onto his zest for life by a thread. Unlike everyday vamps who were fuelled by blood and hatred, Jude thrived on inspiration which usually came from the man he loved. If it were a mortal who excited him like his former partner, then he could live for days on that and very little nourishment. However, not being in a committed relationship with anyone was slowly breaking him and he knew if he didn’t find the lover that would change his mood, surely he’d become haughty and evil like the others before and after him.
Contentment, lust, euphoric love is what he strived for in his latest search for an eternal partner. Jude wouldn’t give up the fight anytime soon but his faith began to waver in the process and this added to his disgruntlement. Once that happened, he knew his desire to create would fade as well.
Tired from strolling aimlessly, he finally found a place to relax in St. James Park. He recalled this place decades ago when it was much quieter and a lot of his fellow vamps roamed free, finding many delicacies of the male and female variety to ravage and kill for nourishment and or pleasures. Nowadays, there was still some that might’ve tickled his fancy but most of those were in the seedier parts of London which he had no strength to travel to.
Jude rested his weary head against a tree and ran his fingers through his blondish brown hair which felt as if it were thinning. In disgust, he pulled the hood over his head and cursed the invisible gods before him for dealing him this cruel hand.
Why had he left his maker’s side, he wondered? If he hadn’t got a strong head, guiding him in the wrong direction, his love for life might not be in jeopardy.

3.5 Star Review for The Power of Muse and Inspiration

“Yes, yes, come to me my child!” Jude lay his head against a dead tree. He sensed two virile young men he might like to enjoy for a double entree. Since he couldn’t have love why not fill up his belly with young blood for nourishment. He waved his long fingers and opened his eyes, gazing around the open field till he caught sight of the two he’d seen in his mind’s eye.
As always the faces were skewed when he looked deep within to see his prey but now that they’d come into view, he noticed one he didn’t want to destroy.
“Wha…I…” At a loss of words was Jude, gawking at the handsome man running away from another. “My, I’ve never seen in all my years a more gorgeous sight.” That moment the old immortal felt his muscles strengthen and his face tightening. A new feeling of love and inspiration came over him.
A mortal, so lovely and beautiful, the desire to live started to return.

Weekend Dirty Dozen - The Power of Muse and Inspiration

Good morning. My Weekend Dirty Dozen is from my latest novella, The Power of Muse and Inspiration.
The setup: The main character William has went on a date with Andrew, a man he's met online. They're heading out to go back to William's place for more conversation but something is distracting the author from proceeding.

“What is it?”
“I’m sorry, Andrew, I just get the weird feeling we’re being watched. Maybe it’s just my imagination,” he chuckled and shook his head.
“I don’t see anyone but if you do, make sure you let me know,” he chided. “Which way is your place?”
“Ah, that way,” he pointed west. “Not far from here at all but, I mean…you sure you don’t want to take a stroll?”
“You’re chilly, I can tell. It would be better to go in.”
“Just for a bit, hmm, it’s very romantic and…I wanna kiss you.”
“And I want the same, inside your flat and on your couch.”
Chatterley returned the grin and moved closer, "You have to catch me first!”

Saturday Sips - The Power of Muse and Inspiration

Here's a little more about my Weekend Dirty Dozen choice for the week!

The vampire Jude is weak from being without love in his life. When he sees the author, he desires him right away but his companion is a stumbling block.

How will he get passed it and when he does, will the mortal want to be his partner? What will he choose? Will Jude convince him to become his eternal lover?

Excerpt

During the date, the two of them talked little about Andrew’s profession before delving into William’s new success as an author. He never really liked talking about himself because he thought of it as boasting, especially when he’d achieved so much in such a short period of time.
“Fascinating,” was what Andrew said with widened eyes and a bright smile that could light up a small community. The man seemed generally interested in everything William had to say. Young Chatterley wondered if he were doing it just to get him into bed. In actuality, William didn’t think it would be terrible if they went on and took that chance. It had been awhile since his last sexual encounter so the first night of protected copulation looked rather promising.
After Andrew picked up the tab, they departed the pub and started to stroll towards St. James hand in hand, still chatting about William’s career.
The wind briskly moved through the trees, causing William to pull the collar on his jacket and Andrew to slip his arm around his shoulders.
“Thank you,” he nodded and gazed into Andrew’s blue eyes.
“You’re welcome. It’s a little chilly to be walking through the park tonight. Why don’t we have a drink back at your place?”
“That sounds good,” William shivered, tightened the scarf around his neck, and pulled his gloves out of his pocket. “I don’t live far from…” The author stopped and started to look around him.
“What is it?” Andrew asked with a confused expression. “William?”
“I’m sorry, Andrew, I just get the weird feeling we’re being watched. Maybe it’s just my imagination,” he chuckled and shook his head. “I’m a writer, so…”
The blond smiled. “It’s quite alright. I don’t see anyone but if you do, make sure you let me know,” he chided. “Which way is your place?”
“Ah, that way,” he pointed west. “Not far from here at all but, I mean…you sure you don’t want to take a stroll? I really like taking late night walks in the park.”
Andrew’s brows furrowed. “William, it’s cold. You’re chilly, I can tell. It would be better to go in.”
“Just for a bit, hmm?” He grabbed onto the other man’s hand. “It’s very romantic and…I wanna kiss you.”
Andrew grinned and pulled him close, placing both hands on his cheeks. “And I want the same, inside your flat, on your couch.”
Chatterley returned the grin and moved closer before darting away from him. “You have to catch me first!” The writer started to run like a child, towards the grassy field with the handsome blond following him.
In all honesty, he couldn’t understand why he was suddenly so attracted to the park. What was there that he needed to see? Did something draw him in?
Always the one that had to see things to believe them, he needed to find out. There had to be some reason he desperately needed to go into St. James after ten thirty at night.
With the wind at his back and the small beads of sweat forming on his brow, he continued his run on the damp grass.
William could feel something wanting him there, but what was it?

“Hi babe.”

“William, what are you…William!”

“What…wh…have you done to yourself?”

“I…I wanted to make this easier, love; do it, Jude. Take me!”

Release of the Power of Muse and Inspiration

Greetings!

I'm very excited to be back at the blog and announcing the release of The Power of Muse and Inspiration!

It's my 3rd sole author from XOXO publishing. The wonderful Amanda Struz did the cover and I'm pretty proud of how this vampire tale turned out.

Again, the story came from the Love Tells All anthology through XOXO called Jude's Gift for Valentines Day.

A story of a 300 year old vampire searching for a partner and when he finds the one he loves this man is not ready to commit.
Will writer William Chatterley give in?

You'll need to read to find this out!

Blurb: No such thing as vampires!

PG Excerpt

William grabbed his chest and heaved in heavy air when he returned to his address. He tossed his gloves and slid to the floor while rubbing his moist face. Tears streaming, he began to weep, recalling the horrific sight of something snapping the neck of his new friend.
What was that?
It couldn’t have been what he thought. No way, not a vampire!
Those things don’t exist. The myths are only kept alive by those who worship the great Anne Rice and the teens who love that wretched movie, Twilight.
“Ughh…” The author felt the bile in his throat, his stomach churning at the continuous thought of that monster, that thing with red eyes murdering Andrew.
Could he have been imagining things? No. He was out there in the middle of the night with this man who seemed quite nice and now, he was dead, snuffed out like a minor insect by some unexplainable thing.
He reached for his favourite black scarf a female friend had gotten him from the Far East but it wasn’t there. William’s eyes widened, patted his chest, and looked around for the silk accessory. He recalled tightening it around his neck just before he took off into the fields, urging poor Andrew to follow him, “Oh God!”
Could he have dropped it? What if he lost it near the scene of the crime? Would they come after him and try charging him with the killing?
The writer’s heart thumped in his chest. He tried to breathe but it hurt too badly. William shook his head and held himself as he shivered in fear. “What if…what if…” he cried. More moisture fell from his brown eyes.
They’ll find me. I know they will.
After about a half hour of sobbing and reasoning to himself how he couldn’t possibly be targeted, he got up and strolled to the bathroom to wash his face. The cool water felt refreshing, jolting him a little but making him relax. He tried his best to wash away that vision of carnage, the ruthless slaying of an innocent man that he really wanted to fancy.
He couldn’t forget those eyes of his attacker; those red irises, the fangs, the pale skin, along with full sandy brownish blond hair atop the being’s head. His huge hands and body covered in a black cloak. It was all William could see under the night light in St. James Park, too dark to see anything more.
This fiend must’ve been the thing that drew him into the park in the first place, but why and how? Surely not to kill Andrew or was it to murder him?
The novelist shook his head, dried his face, and the front of his hair with the towel hanging on a nearby rack. He grabbed a couple of sleeping pills and popped them with a small drink of water . In truth, he would’ve liked to take a shower or bath but he just felt so weary from all the events that transpired he only wanted to rest.
Dragging himself to the four post bed, he shed his clothes and tossed them on the floor. He slid in between the cool light blue sheets which sent a quick jolt through his system the moment his skin made contact.
“Mhmm…” he sighed and closed his eyes tightly, allowing the teardrops to flow from his lids. In anguish from over what had happened and even more considering what might be next.
Would they try pinning the murder of Andrew on him? He had no alibi for the time of death, no lie he could attach himself to so he could cast doubts in the minds of those at Scotland Yard.
William didn’t want to think that his career as an author would be so abruptly cut because of suspicion of a crime he didn’t commit.
The realization ate away at his core. How would he talk his way out of this one?

Saturday Sips - The Power of Muse and Inspiration

Good morning!

Here is a little from my next book, The Power of Muse and Inspiration.

The early morning before dawn continued with high wind gusts and light rain that flowed over London. Stories of the poor teacher who had his neck snapped and his body drained ruled the headlines of newscasts and papers with many expressing shock over his death.
“Who would do such a thing,” some of them said. People who knew him remarked about his intelligence, his work ethic, and how wonderful he was to everyone around him. No one would want him dead and even if they did, why? Who’d want to kill such a wonderful man?
In a flat not too far from William Chatterley’s was the building belonging to Andrew Gastley, the victim of the vampire Jude. The immortal prince had made his way there to destroy any evidence of Andrew’s contact with William.
Thank goodness they’d only talked for a day or so which meant he’d easily be able to follow the instincts from his victim and do as he needed to remove suspicion from his potential mate.
Clothed in a black suit he’d borrowed from his prey, he sat at the laptop, deleting the profile on MaleMatch.com that brought them together. He also deleted several emails showing responses as well as the picture Andrew had downloaded of the beautiful young man. Not before printing his own personal copy however that he’d be able to carry with him wherever he went to remind him of the man he desired more than anything; his lover to be, William Chatterley. Jude’s gift to his inspiration.
Once he completed his task, he took a sniff from William’s silk scarf he picked up in the park before throwing it over his shoulder. “Mhmm, William, I cannot wait until we are together my love. You shall be my prince, my eternal lover once all the fanfare dies down. I shall be there for you, my sweet.” Jude smiled to himself and got up from the chair to stand on the ledge of the window nearby. He jumped up and then hurled himself off till he noticed the nearest building.
Now that the deed of getting rid of the traces on Andrew’s computer had been done he somehow had to do the same on William’s but not before he’d go flat hunting since he was once again ready to take his place amongst the commoners in twenty first century Britain. Time to find a home so he could bring his lover to and store his few belongings as well as rest his head but only after he’d go back to the cemetery to sleep until the dark befell the city once more.
Hopefully he’d find an agent who worked after dusk so he could search for the perfect lair to spend the rest of eternity in with his new partner.
Quicker than he’d imagined, the night came again and he stepped out of the crypt, smoothing the wrinkles on the suit he’d taken from Andrew. “Ah, might be time for a feeding,” he mused while making his way from the burial grounds, hopefully for the final time.
Instead of coming back there he thought why not check into a hotel, a nice quaint one near Trafalgar. From there, he could make calls to find someone to assist in his search as well as sleep comfortably since the crypt stay had already become menacing. A temporary home was what he needed most to prepare him for the initial visit to see his new lover.
While he strolled the streets, he ignored the hunger pangs that rose in his stomach. He clutched his belly, trying his best not to glance at the souls walking past him, lost in their own thoughts and reverie.
He’d been travelling for a while until he came upon a flat in the West End of Fitzrovia with a “to let” sign. The building appeared to be quite cosy, like it had been recently renovated. The old feel appealed to Jude since he was however nearly three hundred years old. He decided, he’d go in and have a look.

Saturday Sips - The Power of Muse and Inspiration

Good morning!

Welcome to Michael's!

For today's sip I'm featuring a little from my next book release, The Power of Muse and Inspiration.

Here is the blurb: No such thing as vampires!

Now a little from the story. It's in edits now and should be out before Halloween!

* * * *

The author stepped to the side after accepting his handshake and waved his hand for his guest to come in. William wondered why he was so welcoming to this stranger. It felt almost like the night of the murder when he felt some strong force luring him into St. James.
He shut the door. “Why don’t we have a seat in my lounge?”
Jude followed him closely, making William a tad nervous; still no cause for alarm, however. “Would you like something to drink?”
“No thank you, William.” He took his seat on the sofa.
William proceeded to his wet bar and grabbed a bottle of Scotch. The author needed to calm his nerves. Not only was he still jumpy but he had a very painful erection right now. “Mind if I have one?”
“Not at all, William. Drink as you please,” he smiled and crossed his legs.
Chatterley raised an eyebrow. This gentleman was very handsome. His broad shoulders, slim waist, a strong chest that surely featured six pack abs. Through the outfit, he couldn’t tell if the man had a matching hard on but William would’ve given almost anything to find out.
“Ahem, so, um…how again did you locate me?”
“Friends,” he drawled, “In high places. They know about everyone. As I stated, I’ve been aware of your residence and such for a while. When the opportunity presented itself to meet you, I took it immediately. Does that bother you?”
“Um,” he took a quick drink from his glass. The liquid coated his dry throat and soothed his soul. The warm burn in his chest felt amazing, he exhaled, “No, not really. I’m rather honoured that you took the time to visit little old me.”
Jude raised an eyebrow. “Little old you,” he folded his arms. “You are a bestselling author. The greatest out of the UK, William Chatterley. Everyone knows who you are.”
“Well, not everyone…” he blushed. He took another sip.
“Yes they do. You’re a celebrity; about damn time too instead of some of these nitwits in music with no talent. Finally a true genius; someone who has a way with words and knows how to write great stories without magical kids or annoying sparkling heroes. You, my friend, are indeed an inspiration,” he smiled wide.
“Well, gosh…” William had to exchange that grin. He’d never heard one person pay him so many compliments in one sentence. This man obviously had great taste and he had a disdain for Potter and Twilight just as William did. “I thank you kind sir for all the lovely words. I’m floored by your wiliness to bestow these words upon me, my good man.”
“You’re quite deserving, young fellow. I’ve always been impressed by your work.”
“Really?” William had been sitting across from the man but he wanted to sit closer to Jude and get a closer look at this handsome gentleman. The author placed his glass on the coffee table and sat about fifteen feet away from the gentleman on the sofa. “Tell me more, Jude. What is your favourite story other than the one released novel?”
Jude nodded, “Ah, the story, Fabled Gays I loved; the homoerotic twists on fairy tales and popular tales. Fascinating work and done so romantically without a porn element.”
“Oh,” William laughed and crossed his legs trying his best to hide the hard on that created a tent in his silk trousers. The heat rose to his cheeks and he could sense himself relaxing by the minute with Jude.
Gods, he was such a looker; up close, even more striking! Blue eyes, beautiful clear skin, well defined face with no wrinkles. How old was he?
“I’m flattered that you liked those. Someday, I might release them as a series if my publisher will allow me to print something already released for free. Sometimes I wish I would’ve stayed indie but the money was just too good from BritBooks to turn down. I haven’t seen a lot from them yet since I have to sell a certain amount but…
Why am I telling him all this?
William stopped himself. No way could he already be so inebriated that he was telling this stranger everything. “Sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“No, go on.” The man patted his knee lightly. “I’d love to hear this. In all truth, I wish you would’ve kept self publishing as well. Sometimes publishers get so demanding on what you write and they try to force you into doing something you don’t want to do just to make sales.”
“Oh, I can assure you it would never come to that!” William rolled his eyes. “I write what I want to write and if they don’t like it, too bad, release me from my contract. Someone will read it. I have a book deal for three more novels; they wanted more but I refused. I wanted to try them out and see how things fared. If it’s a working partnership and the quality stays up to par, I’ll stay but the minute they slip, I’ll be contacting them to make changes or demand my rights back. I’ve got a lawyer on retainer for these things. He said it wasn’t a bad deal, three years at forty-five percent royalties and I received two k in advances. Not too shabby I suppose.”

Please make sure to stop in to BLRawiya's for her new story, Taming Wild Horses *grins* She is better suited for that story! :D
