Michael's Thursday Guest Spotlight #1

Good morning! Welcome to Michael's!

I'm starting a new segment that I'd like to do at least twice a month called Thursday Guest Spotlight. Why Thursday? Well, it's almost the end of the week and generally by this time, I'm winding down and the topics might be scarce. o.0

Works for Shar so we've started this today and have kidnap...I mean, asked for Caitlin Ricci to be our guest! Let's give her our undivided attention!

I’ve always wanted to try self publishing, but it felt like this hugely complicated task of questions and formats, nothing I had any experience in. But after talking to a few people, getting connected with someone who can format my book for me that is also affordable and having a beautiful cover made for me by Tabatha Heart, I knew I had to try it. And honestly it’s not as scary as I originally thought and now my first self published book, The Little Crow, comes out this weekend.

The Little Crow came out of a blog hop that a group of us M/M authors living in Colorado put together earlier this year. We stopped by a blog and the idea was to write a quick free short story. Another option was to write that short based on the cover of another author’s book. I thought it would be a nice challenge and so I chose Michele M. Montgomery’s book Dammit! I didn’t read the blurb, didn’t ask her about her book at all. The idea was to see what I would come up with based on only seeing her cover- a man in chains. And so The Little Crow was born.

I had an amazing amount of encouragement about this little short. People emailed me often. They wanted to know what happened between Mal and Jamison. For a while that was it and I didn’t think I’d continue it. I knew I wanted to self publish it if I ever wrote it into a full length story and the idea of that was just too scary to be tempted. But then Mal sat up and started talking one day. He got demanding and I had to listen. There’s no avoiding a character when they start talking loudly enough to drown out everyone else in an author’s head.

And so I listened to him and I wrote. My wonderful cover artist, Tabatha Heart, worked incredibly quickly to get me what is now my favorite cover of them all. I learned about self publishing and knew I had to try it. From that little short this book and three more after it were born, along with a spin off series with one of the characters that you’ll meet in The Little Crow.

Thank you for reading about how The Little Crow began and I hope you’ll take a moment to check it out. It’s available at Amazon and many other online ebook retailers. Here are the links-

Here’s the blurb to get you started
Detective Jamison Landry knew his job was never going to be easy. He’s dealt with the worst criminals imaginable and believes in his work and the community he serves. But he’s never met someone like Mal before. The mysterious man keeps him guessing, both confuses and excites him and Jamison isn’t sure how he feels about the man. Things turn from unusual to downright strange when people start insisting Mal isn’t quite human. And Jamison’s creepy dreams of crows and graveyards don’t make things any better for him. Will Mal stay around long enough for Jamison to figure out his secrets or will this mysterious stranger leave him wanting more?

And my cover artist made me this great book trailer

About Me

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance, their dog and Blue Tongue Skink. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.

Thank you for spending time with me today. Happy reading!

Welcome Christianna Spencer!

Good morning all. I'm back in town. Let's give a Christianna Spencer a chance to promo her new book, Tyler from Dreamspinner Press!

Hello everyone.
My name is Christianna Spencer and I’m a new author on Dreamspinner Press stopping by to promo my debut story that comes out May 2, 2012.

By Christianna Spencer
M/M Erotica short story
Coming May 2, 2012 from Dreamspinner Press

Blurb: Being a college student on a road trip means making certain sacrifices, like eating gas station food instead of in decent restaurants and staying in a series of tacky motel rooms. When Aiden leaves his buddy Chase to search for some excitement, he figures the dive bar not far from the motel is as good a place as any to start the night. At least he can get a couple of drinks and hustle some poor sucker out of a few bucks at pool. There’s even the possibility of getting a little action if he plays his cards right—a possibility that quickly becomes reality in the form of a dark and sexy stranger named Tyler.
Excerpt:
Aiden looked at their new accommodations as he sat on the end of his bed, hearing Chase busy himself with God knows what in the bathroom. He couldn’t figure out why no matter where the road took them, he and Chase always seemed to stay in the same motel room. True, the decor was different for each, bad ’70s porn motif here or a fishing theme there, but somehow they all just seemed to feel the same. It was like the same guy went around designing crappy motel rooms.
Aiden stared at the tacky—and God, were they ever—furnishings as he ran his hands over the legs of his jeans. Being a college student on a road trip meant you made certain sacrifices. Gas station food versus decent restaurants had been the most common, but this mustard-yellow carpeted nightmare was, in his mind, the worst so far. That observation had only been added to when he caught his muscular reflection staring back at him from gold-veined, mirrored tiles.
“You sure about this, Chase?” Aiden called toward the closed door. “What we talked about in the car… you’re sure?”
“Yeah.” Chase’s voice came loud and clear through the sound of running water behind the door. “Just trust me, Aiden.”
Aiden pushed himself up, making his way over to the bathroom. He leaned his six-foot-one frame against the doorjamb and brought a hand to his head, his fingers running absently over his mess of dark blond hair. “If this is about that ‘vanilla’ comment I made—”
The door opened just enough for Chase to stick his shaggy head out, a cloud of steam from the shower inside hitting Aiden full in the face. “Aiden, I’m sure. Just go enjoy yourself.”
Aiden sighed, shaking his head slightly, as he looked at his lover. “Okay.” He turned and headed for the door, grabbing his keys as he passed the TV.

Stolen Dreams - Sue Brown

Morning!

Can I just say how much I love Sue Brown? We met virtually last year and when I was a more of a nobody than I am now, she had me on her blog and allowed me to feature several of my stories.

Every time I speak to her through email, I feel as though I'm not worthy. I love this woman's style and wish I could bottle it and make it my own. No really, I won't go that far, but I do love her stories. If I didn't write myself, I'm sure I'd be all the way through her backlist.

Anyway, a promo for her newest story, Stolen Dreams is here.

This is the question I asked her to answer:

MM: What inspired you to do the book, Stolen Dreams? Why the title?

SueB: I was bought in an auction to write a story. The poor lady had to wait for me to finish my uni work and other deadlines. Then when we discussed it, she gave me her ideas, and I wrote something else. But if it hadn't been for her I'd never have thought of Stolen Dreams. The title comes through in several respects, but mainly because my heroes had their hopes and dreams stolen by someone else.

How about a blurb and buylink?

Blurb:   In a moment of madness, Morgan cheated on his best friend and lover, and Shae walked out without looking back. Five years on, and Morgan has a new life. He is engaged to a tempestuous and passionate Hollywood actor, Jase, and his career as an assistant movie director is thriving.

The last thing Morgan expects is for Shae to walk back into his life. It is clear from the start that he is still deeply attracted to Shae, and that feeling is returned. What is also obvious is that everyone else can see it, including his fiancé.

As Morgan and Shae get to know each other again, they discover the extent that friends meddled in their lives to keep them apart five years previously. Morgan finds that he cannot deny the fact he is still in love with Shae, but he is engaged, and Shae has secrets that he is not prepared to share. Morgan has some hard decisions to make as he struggles not to hurt the men that he cares about

Welcome Back Lisa Worrall

Greetings readers. Welcome to Michael's! Another amazing author is here today. How can we follow up fab writer Angel Martinez. With another great one and fab friend, Lisa Worrall. Let's see how she answers my probing questions!

Before you started, had you done any fanfiction? If so, what fandom?
God yes.  I love fanfiction.  My friend got me into reading it and then asked me to write a fic for her birthday and the rest is history J  Those who know me will not be surprised to know it was in the Supernatural fandom J

*For Fanfiction writers, did you ever do any Real Person Fan fic? If so of who, if not do you think it’s wrong to do that?
Fanfiction is where I started in the Supernatural Fandom as stated above, and I didn’t always write AU (alternate universe).  In fact, most of my early stuff was definitely real person.  I certainly don’t think it’s wrong to do so.  We all have different tastes, we all have different things that float our boats and, quite frankly, having attended quite a few Supernatural conventions, the actors know of its existence and don’t read it, but don’t object to it either.

What is your favorite subgenre to write?
M/M is the genre I write in.

What is your opinion on the “chicks with dicks” analogy? In your opinion, is it wrong for your males to be emotional or romantic?
I think the “chicks with dicks” analogy was started by men who find it difficult to express emotion in their own relationships.  Why is it okay for a heterosexual man to tell his wife he loves her… or hold her hand… or kiss her in public… or call her baby… whatever—but we’re supposed to think that a gay man wouldn’t dream of expressing the same endearments to the one they love?  It irritates me when, and it’s usually men, state that all gay men are interested in is sex and that emotion doesn’t come into it.  And I’m sure there are gay men out there who are only interested in that… just as there are women out there who feel the same way.  However, I can’t believe that that is what every gay man in the world is the same.

Your first published book?
My first published novella, which I class as my first book because it wasn’t a short story… was A Nanny for Nate with Silver Publishing.

Who are the authors that you look up to?
I adore Sue Brown’s writing.  It’s fluid and seamless and grabs you from the first word until the last.  I also love Stuart Wakefield’s stuff.  I don’t usually go for fantasy, but he does it so well.  Patti Logan, of course, knocks it out of the park with a splendid mix of romance and BDSM.  And I confess to being a huge Andrew Grey fan.  He hits the spot every time. Oh, and there’s Laura Harner, I might have a bit of a soft spot for her…  this could go on for some time.

What books are you reading at the moment? It’s okay to give a fellow author a plug!
I just finished reading Stolen Summer by S.A. Meade.  The tale she wove was amazing and I was sucked in straight away.  So much so that I could not put it down!  Totally recommend it.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a couple of things.  I have a three book series called Barty, Me & Daddy Makes Three.  It’s about a guy, Evan, who works at Dreamland, a theme park in California, where he is the star attraction… Barty Bear.  One day he meets a little girl who has lost her Daddy and his life is changed forever.
I’m also working on a story revolving around a cataract sufferer who runs an assisted camp for the blind.  When a particularly happy camper shows up, things don’t quite go as planned.

When creating your characters, do you have models in mind or are they totally fictional?
I’d like to say that they’re totally fictional, but most of my leading men have a little of the Jensen and Jared’s about them… with a change of hair colour and eye colour… although green always seem to sneak in there. *blushes*

If you write gay romance or erotica, just how descriptive are your in their sex scenes?
I think they’re quite descriptive.  I find the sex scenes the hardest, because you want to make them different each time, but obviously there are standard moves… shall we call them lol.  I like to concentrate more on the emotional side of it while keeping it hot.  I hope I manage to do it!

What is your opinion as to why publishers only want to group all manlove stories under erotica?
Do you feel this is a hindrance to our genre?
I do actually.  As I said above, I write M/M erotic romance, heavy on the romance.  Not that there isn’t a place for purely erotica… but not everybody wants to read a book about two sweaty blokes wrestling naked and shagging like there’s no tomorrow without even asking each other’s names.  When I read a book, I like plot to be the priority and the sex almost secondary.

Do you believe it’s important for you to know the gender of the author?
No – what difference does it make?  As long as the writing is good, who gives a monkey whether you’re Arthur or Martha?

Recently, a writer sabotaged her career by answering a bad review on a blog. How would you have handled this and do you think authors should answer their reviews?
I don’t think we shouldn’t be allowed to answer reviews.  But as my dear old dad used to say… there’s a difference between scratching your arse and tearing it.  I’ve had bad reviews or reviews where the reader has asked questions or not understood what I’ve meant and I’ve answered them.  At the end of the day, it’s like someone telling you your kid is ugly… you wouldn’t ignore it would you… but you would get yourself arrested either.

As a fellow fem in the genre, what is your stance on the difference between male and female gay writers?
As far as I can tell… the only difference between male and female writers of this genre is their anatomy.

What are your thoughts on the fact that some gay male writers discriminate against women?
Insecurity, stupidity, knobheaditis.  What it all boils down to is that they don’t want girls pissing in their paddling pool.  But it’s kind of tough, because it’s not up to them, it’s up to the reader.

What is your stance on issues in society like same sex marriage, DOMA, etc?
I have only one stance on same sex marriage.  It’s all about love.  I was brought up to believe that you grow up, meet someone, fall in love and get married and live, hopefully, happy ever after.  Nowhere did it say that a woman had to fall in love with a man and a man in love with a woman.  Love is love and it should be celebrated, whatever package it comes in.

Why do you feel homoerotic images are not acceptable on place like FB?
I think they’re perfectly acceptable on your own page with the appropriate privacy settings.  If anyone has a problem with anything I post, then unfriend me, I won’t be offended.  I will be offended if you knowingly friend me because I am a writer of M/M and then get pissy because I post revealing pictures.

Fun questions pick at least 3
Name one celeb that you wish was gay and why?
There are celebrities I wish weren’t gay, but I can’t think of any I wish were.

Name two male celebs that you’d like to see in a hot make out session?

God help me… Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki (now I have to lie down)

Your favorite gay tv show or movie?
Shelter, starring Brad Rowe and Trevor Wright

Your favorite gay celeb?
John Barrowman…Captain Jack Harkness himself.  Although Mr Bomer is edging up behind him, if you’ll pardon the expression.

Do you feel that celebs who are gay or bi should come out the closet?
I see no reason for anyone, famous or not, to be ashamed of who you are.  But at the end of the day we all make our own decisions.

For the men in your books, commando or underwear?
Boxers….

Favorite character in one of your books?
Kaleb, Always Hope.

If you’ve watched gay porn, tell me your favorite movie and or star.
I have a huge thing for Parker London… and he has a bit of a huge thing for me…
Blurb:

Ash Watts has his life exactly how he wants it: burgeoning career, gorgeous boyfriend, and an apartment with a fabulous view of LA. But his perfect world comes crashing down around his ears when he learns of his only sister's untimely death. A small town isn't all he finds when he lands in Freedom, Alabama for Annie's funeral. This small town is brimming with secrets; secrets that could change Ash's life forever.

Kaleb Gibson, honest-to-God cowboy, and native of Freedom, born and bred, found his best friend the moment Annie Watts breezed into town. Her death left a gaping hole in his heart, and while Annie's brother may have her same dark hair and green eyes, Kaleb refuses to lose his heart all over again, and he can’t forgive the man for neglecting his sister when she needed him most.

Revelations from Annie's Will throw Kaleb and Ash together in ways they never imagined. Will Kaleb be able to carry out Annie’s last wishes without killing her beloved brother and without revealing a secret from his own past that could destroy everything? And will Ash stick around long enough to see that Freedom may hold an even more perfect life than he could have imagined?

EXCERPT:
Kaleb tossed the suitcase in the back of his truck and then climbed in behind the wheel. He started the engine and opened his window to let in the warm summer breeze and waited for Ash to hoist himself into the passenger seat. “You might wanna open your window, it’s hotter ‘n a whorehouse on nickel night in here.” As Ash fumbled with the inside panel of the door, Kaleb rolled his eyes when he realized what the man was looking for. He leaned across him and his lips curled at the gasp from Ash when his arm brushed against a firm thigh. Kaleb gripped the lever and wound the window down until the pane had completely disappeared into its housing. “This is a mint condition 1969 Chevy C10, City Boy. There ain’t no electric windows here, you’re in the South now.”
After negotiating the traffic around the airport, Kaleb pulled out onto the freeway and headed towards home. He glanced over at Ash and frowned at how pale the guy was. “When did you last sleep?” The question was out before he could stop it. Not that he’d planned to be anything other than civil, he’d merely decided he wasn’t going out of his way to be nice. This was the guy who’d left Annie high and dry, and he was the guy who’d seen the sadness in her eyes as she’d made excuse after excuse for the man who didn’t return her calls.
“Excuse me?” Ash turned to look at him and Kaleb was struck once again by the green of the man’s eyes. Now that they were out of the harsh fluorescent lighting of the airport, he could see that while there were obvious similarities between brother and sister, Ash’s eyes weren’t as vibrant a green as Annie’s. More like the ocean on a stormy day, and— what the fuck does it matter what color his eyes are? You’re giving him a ride, not painting his fucking portrait.
“You look like you’ve been put through the mill and hung up wet,” Kaleb said gruffly, returning his gaze to the road, angry with himself for being sucked in by the air of fragility about the man, despite his tall, lean frame. “Didn’t you sleep on the plane?”
“Oddly enough, no,” Ash snapped. “I was too busy thinking about my sister’s funeral to catch a few 'z’s'.”
“Shame you didn’t think about her more often when she was alive,” Kaleb countered, unable to keep the venom from his voice. Nice, Gibson, kick the man when he’s down why don’t ya? Kaleb ignored his inner voice’s scathing retort. Ash wasn’t the only one who was down, but they all had to keep going. Was he supposed to treat the asshole with kid gloves? Watts wasn’t the only one who was grieving. He’s her brother! He didn’t care. Just because Ash and Annie shared the same blood, didn’t mean anything. He, Kaleb Gibson, had been more of a brother to Annie Watts than this sack of rich city boy shit. His own heart weighed too heavy in his chest to care about Ash’s feelings.
“I beg your pardon? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Ash said in stunned amazement, turning his now angry gaze on Kaleb.
“You’re the writer, figure it out,” Kaleb spat, his fingers tightening on the wheel.
“You don’t know anything about me, or Annie.”
“I know she sat by the phone night after night waiting for your calls… calls that never fucking came. I know she cut out every clipping of every article you ever wrote. I know she was prouder of you than you had any right to.” The look Kaleb shot Ash was filled with disgust. “So quite frankly, City Boy, I already know more about you than I care to.” He knew he’d hit a nerve when spots of red flamed in Ash’s pale cheeks and for a nano-second, he wanted to take the words back—for a nano-second. Maybe it would do the man good to hear some home truths.

Celebrate the Little Things - Sharita Lira

Good morning. Almost afternoon here but I've been squeeing part of it due to Rawiya's new release and well... goofing off a little.

The certificate you see above is one of the reasons I love writing. Not for the accolades, really but the little things that come from your readers and or publisher(s).

*grins*

I received this in the mail yesterday, the day before, my author print copy of My Sexy Valentine, days before, my note from my other pub, Rebel Ink that I was in the top 10 in sales for 2011. Mind you, I only had one book from Rebel and I was part of an anthology.

Last week, a couple of heartwarming notes from readers, a review for Vertigo on Goodreads, and a few nice words from peers every other day.

This, my friends, is the other reason I keep writing. Other than the fact that I love to write, creating scenes for my characters regardless if they're the tension filled scenes from BL, the sensual from Rawiya, or the literary style from Michael, I truly enjoy being an author.

Am I making the Amanda Hocking bucks? Hells no, not even a fraction. Maybe 1 millionth, *laughs* but I'm really not complaining.

Sure, I'd like to make more sales and I know that will happen as I improve as a writer and continue to get my name out there but I cannot let it be my prime focus. Sure, I believe all authors want more sales but it does depend on the market, what readers are looking for, and so forth.

What's the trends? Seemingly the really dirty or the really sweet. I can write a little of both to an extent. Is this important? Yeah, but I can't let the trend dictate what I love to do.

What I can focus on is creating the best stories I possibly can. I'm learning from author writers, I've been taking classes, and I have a helluva beta in fab author Julie Lynn Hayes.
Why I never asked her to beta for me sooner, IDK. Still, better a little late than never and I can fully appreciate an author who's as good as her to help me.

So again, I say what's the best thing about being an author? Being able to create for an audience and be recognized by readers, publishers, and or peers. Writing is a lonely business. To give kind words and or encouragement can go a long way!

Your Author Blog is Your Home

Good morning! This is Shar blogging and not Michael once again. First of all thank you to all the lovely people who commented on my blog yesterday. I am floored! Wish I could win the Kindle but ah well, another story for another day. *grins*

The Authors Blog
Author Sharita Lira

So much has been written and talked about when it comes to your blog. Whether it’s how often, how it should look, the do’s and don’ts as well as the content you should have and how it’s presented. In my opinion there’s no right or wrong way. Think what makes you happy first what you think is feasible to maintain.

Now, I’m not saying throw anything up there, meaning blogging about your visit to the vet or to the dentist, nor am I advocating filling the blog with, ahem, interesting pictures. Just keep in mind when you do make a blog, it’s is in a sense your home. What you but out there is visible to the world. You’re allowing your audience to visit you completely unannounced. Is it tidy? Is it a place where everyone can feel welcome?

Let me preface this by saying in no way shape or form am I an expert. I’m only stating my opinion so here it goes. Again, let’s use the analogy of your house since the blog is essentially an author’s home base.

Is it tidy? When you invite people into your home, you don’t like to leave clothes strewn about or empty food boxes, etc. In blogging sense what about the links on your blog. If they are images do they work? If they are covers to your books do they lead to the best place to purchase it? I know I‘ve done some cleaning on mine since one of my pubs recently updated their website. Tidiness can also mean is it updated? A lot of people say everyday it should have SOMETHING up there to tell the readers and our followers that you’re still writing. With the holiday just passing, I’m sure a lot of us didn’t update a whole hell of a lot. I know I didn’t. So I did that these last couple of days. Updated, said happy new year, welcomed a guest. In truth, I believe your blog should have something new up everyday even if you have nothing to say. How about a picture? A blog about your WIP? I have a schedule so even when I don’t have a guest, something is up from the previous day or two at least. This I something to think about when you create yours.

The appearance? In your home, you put very inviting things up. Vases full of flowers, pictures of your family, etc. Now this is touchy because I love a saucy blog. Pictures of love in its many forms, especially of the m/m variety are such turn on’s and on my blog Menspirations, I try updating everyday with some very saucy pics but I had to think, on my writer’s blogs, I might want to tone down the sidebars just a tad and even on my Wow Wednesday, I moved it to Menspirations and I have a pic that leads to it from Taboo on most days. When it comes to being an m/m writer we have to think about the people who visit. They might not be fans of gayporn.  To some, this might be disturbing. Still, I’m all about free speech and when you want to showcase your favorite pics don’t let them dictate what you put up but just keep in mind, you might have some people who will either not come back or take it a step further and report you. I won’t because I love it all. Along with the pics, I wonder about promotion on the sidebars. At Michael’s, I have every cover Michael has been associated with so far. I think that will change since I’m sure Michael will have many more. Will I put up every single one? No. On BL’s I have hers up too. She has more books coming as well. I’ll keep hers up for now but when she gets past six, it might be time for it all to go. How about a blogroll which is a list of your fave blogs, some promo for your fellow authors? I have the book I’m reading now with a buylink. This leads me to my next point.

Guests? You like people to come to your house, right? When they come they stay awhile, they eat with you, etc. I hope you’re not a person who doesn’t like to have guests by. With blogging, in my opinion you should like to have guests on a regular basis. I try to have them come over twice a week. Michael and Rawiya are on a set schedule. BL has her own set of saucy questions but I also invite Cassandre Dayne over every other week. Rawiya has Xakara over twice a month for ménage Monday and Michael has a fan, Sheila G, do a monthly post, usually at the beginning and a monthly author spotlight. Some might say this is too much but I like paying it forward. So many people welcomed me into their “homes” when I first started even when I was a nobody. *laughs* I’m still fairly new but I’ve done the same to authors well known or not. How about blog tours? On the day I’m writing this, I’m part of a blog tour which has garnered about 50 comments so far. Wow, I’m floored. Surely the giveaway, a Kindle Fire, has something to do with it but just the contribution I made resulted in new followers and I don’t have the views but it has to be many. What about the wonderful things like Six Sentence, Weekend Dirty Dozen, Flash Fiction? All things that can draw traffic. Only a few things but hopefully they’ll help. I know they have for me.

Advertisement? Okay this is an odd one. When you have people over, do you have things about your books all over the place? Do you bombard the guests who come by with your news? Is that all you have to talk about? *laughs* Hopefully not. We don’t want to bombard our readers with our latest book on every post. Wip’s are good, free reads, yes they are good as well, something to look forward to. What about a topic related to your writing? Mine is the men I use in stories or the music I write to. Rawiya has the best one. Titillating Tuesday is her picture day and Wind Down Wednesday is her or the guests inspiration. Her blog is still new so I’m testing things to see if they work before I invite guests to do them as well. They get a lot of views so far so that tells me they might be good ideas to continue. As I stated earlier, I love pictures. Michael’s Wow leads to Menspirations where more saucier pictures are shown. Just pics, no words. I also occasionally do Thursday 13 when I have a topic and on Saturday’s all the muses do a Saturday Sip of a book or WIP if they aren’t doing WDD or FFF. On the flipside of that, I don’t get overly personal either. I don’t talk about my kids or family or even what I’ve done outside of writing too much unless it relates to the topic. Think about what you want out there on the web my friends. *smiles*

Those are only a few things I could think about. The color scheme, music on the blogs, the text, all things totally up to you as the author but just think about the message you’re sending as the writer to the world. I know with the pictures, I’ve been very stubborn. It’s my blog, don’t like it, leave. It’s still my attitude to an extent but I had to think about it. As much as I like the porn, others may not like it. Now, funny thing is, my Menspirations blog has more hits than all my writer’s blogs combined, so the Google stats say and it’s really risqué but I rarely promo there. There’s a blogroll, a link to my others, and that’s it. Really, if people knew who I am, they might not know I actually run it. LMAO but I do.

The bottom line is our blogs contribute to our brand. There are no numbers to support it but your blog will help your sales. People want to get to know you as an author, so open your home, keep it tidy and looking good. Most of all updated. Try for a weekly post, set a schedule of friends to come by or regular things just so something goes up. You might be surprised at how many will follow you. I know I’m floored by this when I show up at places like Goddess Fish and or TRS. They show up in the follow link and their names look familiar when I go to those other blogs.

Hate to blog? C’mon it’s not that bad. Learn to love it. It is a part of your writer’s life after all. Leave your thoughts.

Thoughts from the head...

Good afternoon!

Very rarely do I get to blog without a guest or a regular feature scheduled so I thought, why not take advantage of that today?

Woot!

I just put down my goals for the week or well for the month at Taboos. Some very lofty ones too considering I'm working on so many at once.

I always say, Damnit, I'm not gonna start a new story till... and I end up doing just that which brings me to where I am right now with 10 WIP's.

OUCH! Yep, I did it to myself and do you think my muses give a damn? Nope. The one speaking the loudest is my Rawiya muse who has lagged behind as Michael and BL continue to do stories and get published.

I feel bad for my "normal" muse which sits in between the gay man and the wicked girl who come up with some awesome ideas. In the meantime, she sits and waits her turn...most of the time, but this week she's pissing a fit!

It actually started last week. We wrote a story and now she wants her novellas edited and ready to go. I have 4 on hold for her. So I guess I better get working or she'll haunt me forever. Well, they all do that anyway but that's besides the point.

Anyways, I have so many appearances coming up. I also had a couple that just passed which was awesome.

Yesterday I was at Sam Crescents blog which had a great turnout and Sunday I was at Goddess Fish which also had a great turnout.

If you look to the left, I have much more planned and there will be guests here as well.

Also, starting August on Taboo only I'll begin doing 1 guest blog a week unless its a special release from another author.

I'd like to have guests at all three so if interested please email michaelmandrake71@gmail.com for Tabooindeed and srlmort71@gmail.com for BL and Rawiya.

Here, we will make Thursday guest day and will continue to do all the other regular features you are used to. I'll continue to have Sheila on once a month and I'm looking for a regular guest blogger to join me here on Taboo. I have an idea who I want it to be too! ;D

Alright then, watch for me and also, A Second Chance should be out this Friday from XOXO publishing. I previewed it on the links above so if you're curious, please have a look.

Thanks for listening and see you tomorrow for Michael's popular feature, Wow Wednesday.

DEBUT Author Spotlight Nix Winter/Sebastian Blade

The First author spotlight will be on Nix Winter, Author of Meet the Morgans and I Hate Christmas. More stories are to follow from this author that writes vibrant characters.

Please read below and learn more about Nix/ Sebastiain an engaging interview.

This post starts a new feature on my blog. Instead of doing reviews, I am reading the author's book in order to ask more comprehensive questions about the book Ive read as well as the authors style.

If you are an author and you're interested, please email me.

Our first author is Nix Winter, also writing as Sebastian Blade. Nix is an engaging writer that brings a fresh approach to the story and its characters. Being a writer myself, it's hard to read another writer while doing your own, but Nix's stories are so unique, they pull you in to keep reading.

I have read three stories so far by Nix, Meet the Morgan's, I Hate Xmas, and the story which appears in the upcoming Ride the Rocket Anthology by Sascha Illyvich, A Berth on Callista and looking forward to reading more.

The following is a short interview with one of the writing world's best kept secrets.

Click on the books for the buylinks.

MM: Taylish and Daniel Morgan from Meet the Morgan's are very vibrant characters. What was your inspiration for them?

NIX: Taylish is a muse that appears in a lot of my stories. I love Taylish. Both Tay and Daniel reach really deep into my soul.

MM: The stories are nicely put together in the one book. I noticed that all were re-printed, are there plans to revisit these characters?

NIX: Yeah! One of the reasons I put out Meeting the Morgans at such a nice bargain price, I might add, is that my Christmas book this year was a Taylish and Daniel story called 'I Hate Christmas'. I want to do a story where Daniel gets his sight back. Taylish is also in a Corey and August story called, "A Trick in the Saturday".

MM: As a writer who pens M/M, what is your advice to others that are trying to break into the genre?

NIX: My advice to writers... Be present in your story. Write what's happening and let the story carry people forward. Said is a good word and Stephen King agrees with me in his book, 'On Writing' which I totally recommend. Write a lot, write all the time, and submit. There is every chance that you're as good as other people submitting stories.

MM: What are you working on right now?

NIX: I just finished a story called 'Mating Rituals', but now I'm working on a m/f/m story called Lord of Storms. Very strong female character! I also have a historical with werewolves. I have so many stories I want to write!

MM: Your story, A Berth on Calista is part of the Riding the Rocket Anthology to be released shortly. Are you a big fan of sci fi? What was the inspiration for this one.

NIX: I love sci-fi! I love history and pretty much any speculative fiction.

MM: How long have you been writing?

NIX: I've been writing since I was eight. So almost forty years? I've been really devoted to my writing for about six years.

MM: What are the next releases we can see from you this year?

NIX: Mating Rituals just came out. Lord of Storms should be out this weekend. Promises, Promises, The Trick in the Saturday, No Faith at All, Faith in the Moon, and a Jewls the Lucky story are all in progress!

MM: Well thank you Nix for stopping by and talking with me today. I really have enjoyed the three i have read so far and look forward to the next ones you have coming out.

NIX: I have a lot of stories at www.nixwinter.com and my new site is www.sebastianblade.com

Thanks!

Nix/Sebastian.

This WEEEKEND Sat the 15th

I am enthused about having these two lovely authors on my blog this weekend.

Blak Rayne and I will be switching blogs this Saturday. She has interviewed me and my other psudeos in a very compelling interview. I will also be hosting her here to promote her latest release, Devotion as well as a couple of fun questions. This is the next book on my reading list, I am really looking forward to it.

On Rawiya's Blog, Bianca Sommerland will be here to chat about her latest release. The cover looks really yummy.

Please stop by and say hello to these talented authors as well as comment on theirs when mine goes up as well!
