Backlist Bloghop

Greetings folks!

Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop!

I wanted to talk about the inspiration behind N’awlins Exotica. What prompted me to write the romantic collection? Okay well, it was months ago right after NaNoWrimo. I’d just completed Under the Gun 2 and I was looking to do another m/m short story in December for an Xmas release. I asked good friend and fellow author, Sara York who did the cover for Rawiya’s best selling m/f I Like Em Pretty to do an m/m version as well. When she sent it back to me, she sent me this lovely piece of art.

Wow, was I floored! Look at the beautiful image. My main characters Kajika Fortier and Frankie Choteau came to life just looking at this cover. Then I started thinking, an illustration that lovely and gorgeous needs more of a story. Some with conflict, perhaps a murder since Frankie is a homicide detective. No way could I allow a fab cover like this only go on a short novella.

So I crafted a basic plot. Kajika’s lover is dead, Frankie comes and investigates, presents issues because Kajika is a suspect and they want to fall in love. Simple right? No, not exactly. It took me about 2 months to get first draft done and when I sent it to my good friend and beta/editor, she tore it apart as she should’ve. No question it needed work. I didn’t have every fact straight, key details were missing and I had to overhaul the story. Since Shar was vacationing at that time, it took us 2 more months just to do edits and get it back to the editor. When we did, it was in better shape but of course we went through 3 stages to get all the points correct.

During this time, the supporting characters began to yell loudly in our ears. Frankie’s partner on the force, Kenina Porter wanted her own book. Vance Morain, the other cop wanted a love story with Kenina but then he changed his mind and picked someone else. Not telling who! *grins* And then, Orrin, Vance’s partner said, where’s my book? Naomi Beneviere, who is Kajika’s best friend said the same thing. She wanted her conflict, her happy ending and so the N’awlins Exotica series was born!

And because I was working on a story for awesome reader and friend Judie Stewart, my twin vampires, Ryland and Ryder Durand also got into the act.

From them, the N’awlins Exotica Paranormal series was born as well. Eventually the twins will become part of the regular series and since this is a triad effort between me, Rawiya, and BLMorticia, both my sister muses will be doing books as well.

Wow. From one small idea, came a 12 book series. Yes, a 12 book series. It’s a collection full of sexual tension, mystery, suspense, murder, and all books push the limits of the erotic. Me being the stuffy muse usually wants to keep up with the plots with very little sex but for this series, I throw it all in the mix and we came up with a collection of books we hope everyone will enjoy. Yes, you’ll have to read them in order to keep up with what’s going on as the next book, relates to the one prior. All books are chocked full of action and I’m excited for everyone to read them.

And to think all this came from one single idea that went from small thought to successful collection. ILEP and Mon Frere have done tremendously well in their first months of release. If you haven’t checked them out yet, I hope after reading this post that we convinced you to do so.

Thanks for listening. Here is the official blurb, blurbs for both books as well as links to excerpts.

Overall Series Blurb

The N’awlins Exotica/Paranormal series

The city of New Orleans is rich in tradition, diverse, and known for the inspiration it provides. In the “Big Easy” there lies the hunger for the erotic as well as the unknown. The residents here feel that sexual energy and it reveals itself through their various creative activities.

Join the characters as they take a wild ride on the edge, enjoying their town for all it has to offer. There’s a certain magic in the air, an erotic magic that cannot be ignored.

I Like Em Pretty Book Blurb

New Orleans is supposed to be the big easy. One night changes everything for Frankie Choteau.

New Orleans. A city rich in tradition, diversity, and on the comeback trail from hurricane Katrina. Francois “Frankie” Choteau, a resident of this town, a cop with a hot temper and low tolerance for bs. Kajika Fortier, a transplant from Oklahoma came here looking for a dream and unfortunately it’s turned into a nightmare. On a hot summer night, they meet and cross paths during a very difficult situation. Despite this, the attraction between them is evident and loneliness for both men is a fate worse than death. They’d both like a chance at happiness but will the circumstances and Frankie’s uneasiness prevent their happy ever after?

Mon Frere, My True Love N’awlins Exotica Paranormal #1

Blurb: Twin vamps Ryland and Ryder Durand are only different in personality while the rest is exactly the same. Ryland, the author is calm and conservative while Ryder the club owner is wild and lewd. However, the brothers share the same dark desire and haven’t informed one another. Will that bring them closer together or sever their relationship for all eternity?

Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop - CONTEST!

Good morning! Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop! So glad you could join us for this weekend event! This is the 2nd one we've done and they've been successful. Hope you enjoy all the links everyone has to offer!

Why did I write True Meaning of Love in the first place? Well, I wanted a different story involving to characters from very different worlds are different stages in their life. London is an older man already successful, rich, and looking for that special someone to fall in love with while Brandon has unfortunately had some trials and tribulations and lives through his art. He says in the book that his painting saved him. He was able to convey all his feelings on the canvas. I feel the same. To me, this book is like my canvas to share with the world what I feel is the True Meaning of Love.

Never discriminates, it doesn’t pick and choose the perfect person for you to fall in love with. Also, when you find that person, what do you do to satisfy them and make them happy? Do you compromise or does one have more of a say so than the other.

In the first book, Brandon and London have a disagreement and when something occurs that migt separate them for good, they reconcile and learn what love truly means. Now, this one tells the more complete story if how they got together and the trials they went through to get to that point in their relationship. As it says, it’s a complete portrait whereas the first one is just a snippet into their lives.

I feel it fits in with your theme perfectly. A younger man who is almost two decades London’s junior who falls in love with him from the start. I love this book and these characters because they are so vastly different; two worlds coming together through a sweet and simple love story.

Blurb: Over fifty doesn’t mean too old to find love

London Davies desires a man to take care of and despite the advances of his former lover and partner James, he pushes on to search for another to make him turn in his bachelor badge.

Brandon McFerry has been abused and scarred for the duration of his life. His only saving grace is his talent with the paintbrush. Although he hasn’t made his big break in the industry, he pushes on in hopes that one of his paintings will capture the attention of his obsession: London Davies

This is a romance. The kind that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside with some hot smexy sex thrown in. An emotional story between two men of different backgrounds searching for the same happy ever after ending!

Here is an Excerpt!

Brandon and London sat on the couch together as the artist spoke at length about the methods he’d used during the creation of the painting. To Brandon, the object of his desire seemed very interested in everything he’d said. He hoped he didn’t bore him with his babbling. The last thing he wanted to do was make the man tire of him too quickly.
London poured some more of the Cristal into both glasses. He handed the flute back to Brandon. They’d finished half the bottle but for whatever reason, Brandon still felt nervous. He took it and tried his best not to spill it, his hand trembling slightly. “Um thank you.” He sipped a little from the glass.
“You’re welcome.” London lightly smacked Brandon on his kneecap. “Love, chill out, yeah? We’re here just having drinks. Relax.”
Brandon nodded and lay back against the cushions. How could he relax knowing he sat beside the man of his dreams? He took a whiff of London’s manly scent. A mixture of cologne and after-shave, as strong as he’d expected. When it infiltrated his nostrils, he felt himself hardening under the slacks. The goose bumps became rocks on his flesh. He was perspiring a little; he hoped his desired one wouldn’t notice. “I’m tryin’, it’s just...” Brandon bit his lip and set the glass on the coffee table in front of him. “Well, I’ve admired you for such a long time, London, and I... This is really a thrill for me.”
London chuckled and moved closer to Brandon. He took the artist’s palm into his. “I get that, but I’m just a man, like any other. I don’t walk on water. No second coming here, love.”
To Brandon McFerry, he did. London had captivated him for years and now his dreams about being on this sofa with him in private had come true. Deep down he wished he could take London into his arms and kiss him feverishly. He’d envisioned a moment like that too, but he refrained. They had just met. “I know,” he sighed and placed a hand on top of London’s. “Tell me. You really like the painting?”
“I do.” London placed an arm around the younger man’s shoulder. “In fact, it resembles a work of art I have at home. I’d love to take you there to see it tonight.”
Brandon looked at the owner with widened eyes.
Did he just say...?
Brandon thought he just heard London say he wanted him to see a painting he had back at his house.
Could it be? Could the man he’d seemingly desired forever be in possession of a work of art that belonged to him? “I… um.” He swallowed hard. “You want me to accompany you home, tonight?”
London held onto him a little tighter. “Yes, I, I hope that isn’t too forward, it’s just... I really do like you and I’d love to see if that painting is yours. Forgive me for moving too quickly but...”
“No, no, not at all I’m just a bit taken aback by this. I’d love to go, though.”
“Good. Then, if you don’t mind, I’d like you to be my date for the rest of the evening. If it weren’t opening night, I’d certainly just ask James to take over but, since it’s a big event…”
“Yes, yes, I understand. I have no issue with staying here late with you.”
He really didn’t. There was nowhere he’d rather be than here with London and to him, the owner wasn’t moving too fast at all. Just right in his eyes.
“Great, now.” London poured the last two glasses of the expensive beverage. “Let’s finish this off, shall we? Then we’ll go out amongst the people.”
Damn.
Seeing London pour yet another glass of the champagne made Brandon wince. Truthfully, he’d already felt the effects after two glasses coming on quickly and he wished he didn’t have to drink anymore. However, he wondered if he refused London would that upset him. He took the glass. “Thank you very much.”
“And thank you again for the painting as well as your presence this night.” London toasted with Brandon, clinking their glasses together, before he drank the contents.
The painter nodded and did the same, hoping he’d be able to stay up for the duration of this evening.
I have to make a good impression on him if I want a chance at being part of his life.
Once they’d finished drinking the expensive bubbly, London led Brandon by the hand, back out to the main area. The hold London had on Brandon made his head swim, along with the wine.
He just couldn’t believe this. Him, Brandon McFerry, on the arm of London Davies, powerful businessman and owner of the new club, Fantasia. Many of his friends, especially Tyler, had told him to not get so wrapped up in this man, but how could he not? Even though he didn’t know much about the man, he’d long ago fallen in love with him from afar, and the fact that London expressed some interest in him made him happier that he’d never given up his dream of meeting him.

Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop!

Good morning! Happy Friday! Welcome to the Backlist Bloghop hosted by me Michael Mandrake.

We have a nice little group of top authors telling you about books on their backlist. I'll start us off by telling you about my book Vertigo from Sizzler Editions.

What's it about? Is a vamp story? Angel, Demon, shifter? I didn't really know until it was done and even then I was confused until book two was written which will be released sometime next year.

Is it based on old folklore? Mythology? Nope all drummed up in the head of Sharita Lira, the head herself. A story about a lonely doctor who longs for something out the ordinary. He's touched obviously, yearning for something that might not even exists but instead of him going to find it, it finds him.

Enjoy a blurb and excerpt. Leave a comment and have a chance to win Vertigo and another book from the Triad backlist. We're giving away 6 books this weekend and you have until the 15th to win so, get out there and tell people!

Here is the blurb and excerpt!

After losing his lover to mental disorder, Dr. Hayden Curry throws himself into work, silently wishing he could experience something extraordinary in love. He finds his match in David, a creature Hayden revives after discovering him and hauling him back to his lab. Upon awakening, David asks Dr. Hayden’s help in discovering more about himself. Hayden agrees but senses secrets in David. Will he get to the bottom of things and be able to continue the special relationship he and David have, or will the secrets that come forward tear them apart?

Before I went to my haven, I glanced outside my window. Outside, the rainfall reduced to a drizzle, coupled by slow moving clouds over the moonlight. The trees blew after only a few gusts of winds, ripped the leaves off and made quite a mess on the grass underneath.
These would be the nights I would cherish with him most. After relishing in the afterglows of new inventions and glasses of wine, there were mind blowing affections to follow.
Such a good lover…
Once I got to my place of work, I immediately began searching for the vials I had for the latest concoction. When I did not see them, I lost my head rather quickly.
“Where on God’s green earth,” I screamed and walked from one end of my laboratory to the other. "Where are those samples I just had? Libertina!"
Immediately, the pale and slim maiden with dark hair ran to my aid.
"Yes sir, have you lost something again, sir?"
"I have Libertina. The tubes I examined the night before. They seemed to…oh."
Within moments, my dearest uncovered the missing necessities I searched for, right underneath my novel, The Bounded Scientist.
I shrunk back and smiled wryly. "Thank you Libertina, ahem, that will be all my sweet."
"Yes sir, if there is anything you need, I'll be tending to your clothes, sir." Quickly, she curtsied and scurried off, closing the door behind her.
Ah, what a fine young maiden I have. If I were more attracted to the ladies, then I might give her go, but only gentlemen tickled my fancy these days.
I could not be that upset even in this pitiful state. Not that many people understood me when they came to know me. Throughout the years, many thought they should have thrown me in the local mental ward because of the ideas I'd had.
Nevertheless, my determination and visions had made me one of the most recognizable names in London, apart from the fact I inherited my father's large fortune.
Still, even with all the money and notoriety, I had always felt something was missing from my life. I longed for something new to happen. Whether it was a new discovery or invention it had to be different from what I had already seen.
I looked at the experiment I had been working on for seemingly weeks in disgust. Things hadn’t been the same anyway since Lawrence departed but I was determined to move on with my life’s work despite what happened to him. I had to hold on to the hope he would return.
After around the fifteenth trial of not receiving my desired result, I retreated to my bedroom to sleep. Unlike times before, I decided not to read before bed but instead lay there until my eyes got too heavy.
I hoped the nightmares would not start again since after they occurred I stayed awake staring at the ceilings of my room, often needing a drink of the alcoholic variety to put me to rest. I felt myself becoming rather dependent on the beverages. Certainly, doing this sort of thing would cloud my senses and not allow me to function properly. Many men of science I knew had become like this and I refused to become one of them.
I’ll never.
I always reassured myself that I wouldn’t continue to down this dangerous path, however, everyday, being alone with only yourself to talk with could be a detriment to one’s mental state.
Although fully capable of doing everyday things, I’d come to accept that I was different. After all, for one, I wasn’t attracted to women. Two, I enjoyed reading more than being outside playing in games.
In fact my mom would frequently say that she wished I’d be like “normal” boys and go play ball instead of reading. This from the same woman who didn’t know how to read until after she birthed me. With the help of my caregiver, I taught myself how to read the written word thus showed my mum in the process. Still, even afterwards, she didn’t consider it as an important skill. “I’ve always had people to do things like read for me,” she said, giving illiteracy credence. Totally absurd but true.
If I wasn’t able to read and learn I might die.
Such is true of me, Doctor Hayden Curry. I preferred to have my mind stimulated before anything else. This isn’t saying that I didn’t enjoy the sins of the flesh because I did, but, books were like gold to me, more important than any penny I owned. I’d inherited most of it which allowed me to live the lavish lifestyle and work on experiments instead of seeing patients to cure their ailments. I wasn’t interested in short term solutions anyway. I wanted results that could change the world and mankind forever.

Backlist Bloghop!

BLURB:

Hesitant to begin a relationship with someone new, two police officers who have lost their partners in the line of duty try to deal with their obvious attraction to one another. Will one of them accept the other’s proposition to start over or remain alone because of their places on the police force?

PG EXCERPT:

While we continued to chat, I noticed DeClerc in my peripheral. I couldn’t help but stare at him. I moistened my lips, biting the bottom as he came closer.

Damn…

“Um, hello…” I looked past the chief to take a long gander at Daniel. I stood up, extending my hand. “I’m Farris Beason.”

He accepted. “Daniel Declerc. Nice to meet you.” The handshake was firm, his hands soft like a female.

Don chuckled, “See Beason, if you would’ve been in the right frame of mind you could’ve joined Daniel today.”

While we exchanged smiles, I gawked at the pretty face in front of me. Daniel was even more gorgeous up close. The only distraction was the defect on his finger. Who was lucky enough to call him theirs? I had to find out.

“Pity,” Daniel said with a grin. “Maybe when you’ve recovered from your wild night?” He cocked an eyebrow.

I laughed, “Yeah, um…maybe…”

We’d broken our hand gestures but not our gaze. Maybe he did play for my team, but the question remained, who was he married to?
